ETA

Boomer quoted saying he was going to resign

quote:

"They told me that they had too many parent problems and too many administrative problems," Nunez said. "I was actually going in there to resign myself after the lack of support and not having my back on disciplinary actions. When I had disciplinary problems at the state tournament, they overruled me. And when your principal is not even at the state semifinal or state championship game, there's a problem."

I believe Sulphur's head coach is retiring.

My son is on the team and a senior. There were some discipline problems that got worked out during the season with suspensions and off the field consequences. One set of parents made a lot of problems for admin, coupled with the Iota game made the decision for them. He is a great coach and we are not in support of this decision.

All sports have shitty parents for the coaches/admins to deal with but from my experience baseball is the worst when it comes to this.

Parents are crazy. Plenty of good HS coaches are leaving or going to small schools because parents are entitled little brats just like their kids.

I wish I knew where to start. I’ve watched our team get dragged all over social media over the Iota game, which was bad, but went both ways. The catcher fiasco was dealt with swiftly with a suspension and off the field consequences. We were embarrassed. Most of our boys out their heads down and work their assess off. Hate that the entire team got a bad rap but we held our tongues because we were focused on making it to Sulphur.
The drama with the parents isn’t just “frick the parents” when they threaten admin with lawsuits.. And you have a woman in charge that doesn’t give a shite about baseball. No support from admin.
I’ll give you a recent example. Some underclass men got caught with girls in their room after curfew in Sulphur . Coach tried to get in the room so they dead bolted him out. He had to go get a key downstairs. so the coach sent them home. Parents complained and admin sent them back and they dressed and were in the dugout.
Glad to be done if this is how they “discipline”

i dont understand wh these admin even give the parents the time of day. I can see if its an abuse thing, if the team is losing all the time and lack of discpline.....but to complain because your son isnt getting playing time or got suspended....frick you...go somewhere else if you dont like it. its insane to me.

one thing a couple schools around here do

if you want a meeting with admin about a coach....you have to personally reach out to the coach and invite him to the meeting with the admin. that away all parties are in the room and whole story is told

other thing couple of the coaches do...if you are a parent and want to discuss something with the coach, your kid must be present

want to discuss an issue with a coach that involves another kid on the team, your kid, the other kid and the other kids parents have to be invited if you are calling the meeting, you have to be the one to invite them

this is baseball only. I know of atleast 3 schools that do that in swla. all 3 were in semis, all three have coaches that are 100% in charge and you know it from the get go...as a parent, you either get in line or get to fricking stepping.

i can tell you 1 of the top 8th grade prospects was told no on a couple things by one of these schools and his parents were in shock because that had never happened and they were surprised they would have to pay for things. Coach told them, as good as their kid is, the family is too much trouble and they would be better off elsewhere.

the 3 programs i am talking about, dont put up with shite.

man pretty messed up by admin. cutting the coaches feet out from under him.

and wtf they gonna sue over? playing time? not being allowed on a team? been shown over and over those lawsuits are thrown out with a quickness.

School admin are so scared of lawsuits that this is what is happening most places. No different than a classroom. You have to document and cover your arse or the parents win. No wonder the kids think they can start shite in a game. The admin told them they have more power than the coach.

It seems like St. Tammany Parish is a HORRIBLE place to be a coach

I coached against Boomer when he was at Archbishop Hannan. He seemed like a good guy, but that was awhile ago. I got out around ten years ago because of the ridiculous antics of parents.

One of LA's winningest coaches of the last 30 years told me recently "parents are getting exponentially worse every year and covid sped that up" This coach is no longer coaching.

so stupid. whats going to happen is schools are just going to cut sports period and you will have just club teams that are very loosely affiliated with the schools and all sports will cost a ton more and everyone will complain about all sports becoming "country club" like they already do about baseball.
