I understand the need to cya. But maybe just tell him it’s expected behind the scenes or something.
He's already expected to do the film and he's not.
Now you're going to give him 200 million and ask him - not require him - to begin doing it?
That's not how it works with children, My Man.
Eta: And why the fuqq would you want an NFL QB who doesn't care enough to look at film? Do What?
Hell, even the Massage Whisperer watched his film.

I didn’t read the thread but did the article come up from when he told someone he didn’t need to watch a ton of film because he sees so much in his head already

23-23-1 record, he does not watch film, but you reinvest 220 million in him. Is Teedy the Cardinals GM ?

ONLY four hours a week? In the NFL? That seems weirdly low.

But really, do you think he sees more of what's developing/happening on the field in his head than either of the Mannings could? Or Rodgers, or even Cousins or Mac Jones for that matter?
I don't. He plays entirely on talent. That is not a way to lead or Win.

The article I’m talking about is from December. It was rehashed somewhere recently but I just heard about it on sports radio

These things happen to every QB from time to time no matter how much they study. Good luck arguing that in court
I'm not going to pretend to know for certain how difficult it will be to prove in court. But, that'd changing the argument. I think it's pretty CLEAR that Murray wasn't doing the bare minimum of film study away from the team and the team easily identified it as being problematic.
I think they will easily know if he's doing it moving forward.

They aren’t going to be able to void his contract because he sucked one week
...nor would they want to.
But, they might be able to void the contract if he continually fails to come into the week prepared. These learning systems are pretty automated these days. They track your usage, require interaction, etc. If his prep is problematic, you will probably see this end up in court. There's too much money at stake.

Simply embarrassing for him

It’s not changing my argument, my point from the very beginning was that the clause wasn’t really worth much because it’s difficult to track and prove, which makes the whole thing kind of a silly endeavor to begin with

Yeah I never said anything to the contrary to this

Again plenty of ways to work around those systems you put in place to track. They can know it all they want, but knowing it doesn’t really matter to the point of this specific contract language. Like with anything, it’s not what you know It’s what you can prove

We are saying the exact same thing I’m not sure what we keep going in circles for.
I’m sure they will try to use this clause to get out the contract if it goes sideways, but it’s going to be extremely hard to actually execute on that based on the way they structured it.

it makes the Cardinals look like idiots for giving him that big of a contract.
Let’s them get out of said contract if he doesn’t do it.

You almost have to regardless. I personally wouldnt want to be the GM that doesnt re-sign a franchise QB and probably gets fired in the process of looking for a new one.
Im not a fan or Murray at all. But if you are a GM he ultimately gets you job security.
Still, i do want to see one GM be the first to pass on giving out one of these deals.

Peyton Manning probably watched 4 hours of film while he was on his honeymoon.
A few years ago in an interview, Dominic Rhodes told a story about how Manning would buy a huge notebook before training camp each year. He’d obsessively watch film and take notes on everything for every opponent all the way down to little minuscule tells that a defensive player would have to tip a coverage. He said Manning would carry it with him wherever he went, and by the end of the season it was filled cover to cover with notes and worn the hell out.
He signed with Oakland the year after the Colts’ Super Bowl win and was there for Jamarcus Russell’s rookie season, and said it was a huge shock to go from a QB like Manning who was almost religious about film study and preparation to a QB like Russell who was constantly sleeping in film sessions and the first guy out of the facility at the end is the day.

For people like Manziel and Murray who are limited, size wise and with physical ability, this is not a good combination.
I know the guy who drafted Jake Plummer for the Cardinals and he said the same about Plummer. The guy got by on his athletic ability at ASU but had but terrible study habits and they quickly found out he couldn't read an NFL defense if his life depened on it. You would have thought they would have figured that out somehow in the pre-draft process.

We are going to give you $200+ million, but we are going to write into your contract that you MUST do the absolute bare minimum.

Imagine handing a dude a contract worth potentially $230m and you have to treat him like a middle school kid
For $230 million, I would commit to 10 hours at a minimum.
I was in a field in a not-to-be-named military branch where guys who were struggling academically had 35 hours of mandatory study hall every week after the required 7am-4pm Mon-Fri classroom study; with a 5 hour minimum requirement ever day prior to a class day.
So, 5 hours signed in, minimum, on Sunday through Thursday, and an additional 10 hours squeezed in on top of that.
All mandatory for a paltry salary of $24,000 per year.
