Kyler Murray has elected to enter his name into the NFL draft, announcing the decision on Twitter.
The Oklahoma Sooners quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner has given himself the option to choose the NFL over MLB, where he has a contract with the Oakland Athletics that includes a $4.66 million signing bonus.
The A's have attempted to keep Murray, the team's first-round pick in the 2018 draft, away from the NFL draft and have even been given clearance by MLB to offer the outfield prospect a major league contract, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
In just his first season as a starter, Murray threw for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns and ran for another 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns in leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff semifinals this year.
While Murray has entered his name into the NFL draft, he still has 72 hours during which he can chose to pull out.
Top A's executives, a marketing executive from MLB and others met Sunday afternoon with Murray in Dallas, sources told ESPN, to better understand what it would take for Murray to forgo a football career and to sell him on playing baseball full time.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who played in both the NFL and MLB during his career, knows what he would do if he were Murray.
"If I was in his shoes, I'm picking up the baseball bat and I'm not looking back," Sanders told ESPN.

Say Oakland puts it out there that they are willing to match up to $15 million. Who takes a chance in the first round then? They still have a few cards to play yet

Are you implying he's not going to get drafted?

Ban bet that if he goes pro in football he won't be drafted in the top 15.

Per CBS Mock: #6
6. New York Giants
Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma. General manger Dave Gettleman sure sounds like he's content to bring Eli Manning back for another season but imagine the Giants offense with Murray under center, Saquon Barkley in the backfield, and Odell Beckham and Evan Engram running routes. Woo boy.

Good business move no matter what for him from what I see.
The As either offer him major league money or he goes in one of the worst QB drafts in recent memory.
I don’t see him going in the high 1st like Dwayne Haskins but some team like the Dolphins or Skins could grab him in the mid 1st.

The A's will back the truck up at some point in the next 72 hours and Murray will pull out of the draft.

Only reason I see him going mid 1st is that there are some desperate teams in that range who don’t have the money to bring in a veteran QB.
The Skins, for instance, are stuck paying Alex Smith’s contract despite him being a gimp.

Murray won’t pull out of the draft. He would be dumb to do so. He is going the Bo route. His options just opened up with this. He can be picked in later rounds even if he stays with the A’s.

The A's don't have a truck to back up. it'll probably be more like a Camry

Go play baseball. I worry about his health in the NFL.
