Wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on this...

I guess a pro athlete needs to know the cameras are always rolling so they should know better.

At the same time it was in the heat of the battle, and I doubt Kevin Pillar has actual disdain for gay people.

Everyone knows that words can have different meanings.

Except the PC police.

He apologized. I'm sure he did that all on his own after realizing the incredible damage that he'd done.

frick this world.

Shouldn't have said it, but not an overly huge deal.

Suspend him 1 game without pay and call it a day.

I don't get his accusation of a quick pitch.

He was in his stance, facing the pitcher, and had already waggled his bat about 3 times.

Maybe he's supposed to be allowed a minimum 4 waggles?

If you walked in to work and called a coworker a fa**ot in front of everyone else in the office you would be lucky to not get fired. I don't think it's unreasonable for MLB to suspend him for a game or so without pay considering he did this on a regional broadcast and it has made the headlines.

Or make him play tonight and take the HBPs that will be coming. I think either is suitable punishment (I'm mostly just salty over Freeman being knocked out)

These comparisons always make me laugh.

I can't walk into work and tell someone "frick you, pussy." But pro athletes do it all the time and no one gives a shite.

The office isn't the same as the ball field.

Really man... since when have sports players been held to the same standard as your regular Jiffy Lube employee?

Should all employers be able to put someone in prison for not showing up to work when they're supposed to, like the military can?

I wasn't saying MLB players are or should be held to the same standard as normal employees. They are often held to a much lower standard in terms of their personal conduct as they're able to act like idiots and still get paid millions of dollars. I was just saying it isn't unreasonable for MLB to give Pillar a minor punishment when he does something stupid that reflects badly on the league.

He'll probably have to sit at least one game maybe 2.

Andrew Shaw had to sit a PLAYOFF game last summer when he told a ref "frick you f@ggot" when skating to the box.

He's suspended two games.

ETA: It's a team suspension.

His game checks donated to some LGBT organization to show that he's really sorry.

I'd actually love to see the reaction if one of these guys came out and said 'You know what, I don't apologize. They're just words, I don't hate gay people, but I also don't feel bad about what I said'

I was thinking the exact thing today. It would be refreshing.

"I apologized to Motte for calling him a ****. I shouldn't have done that. But I'm not apologizing to all of the homosexual, bisexual, transgender, whatever people out there who were unnecessarily upset about this. Words can have different meanings and intent is very important when using a word. I have absolutely no negative feelings toward the LGBT community, but I will not apologize or be beaten down by their faux outrage."
