Kenny Payne and Louisville basketball are off to a roaring start

Does the coaching carousel thread extend into hoops season??
quote:
With drama unfolding off the court, the Louisville men’s basketball team failed to deliver on it.
And for the sixth time during Kenny Payne’s tenure, a mid-major opponent walked out of the KFC Yum! Center a winner.
U of L (4-6, 0-1 ACC) rallied from as many as seven points down during the first half to hold a 31-29 lead at the break. But the Cardinals left their defense in the locker room and, for lack of a better word, quit down the stretch en route to a 75-63 loss to Arkansas State — a team picked to finish ninth in the Sun Belt Conference that hadn't beaten a high-major program since 2014

Better than last year’s start.

Louisville hoops has had a brutal fall post Pitino scandal. They are one of the very worst P5 programs currently which is crazy to think about. I would think it’s still a very desirable job when it comes open here soon

Losing to AState bball at home is probably Payne's worst loss of his L'ville tenure... And that's saying something.

It's truly unreal how bad that program is.

They lost to Lenoir-Rhyne at home last year. LR is DII. That is a terrible terrible loss and way worse than Arky State.

I don’t understand how they got so bad? Don’t they recruit well?

Louisville needs to come full circle and hire Will Wade.

He might just be one of the worst coaches ever.
There’s bad and there’s inexcusable, if you can’t find a few guys to beat Arky State and a DII school, that’s a you problem.

As if the loss yesterday wasn't bad enough, the whole Koron Davis situation has been nuts:
It all stems from a rumor that Payne and Davis had a physical altercation in practice. But that's never been confirmed.
WDRB article on the debacle

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Koron Davis, whose status with the Louisville men's basketball team has been shrouded in mystery all season, was dismissed from the team on Wednesday.
The word, via the University of Louisville basketball program, came after a bizarre series of events in which the school first put out an official release saying the player would transfer, but not that he had been dismissed.
Davis had disputed that news release. When asked if he’d care to elaborate during Wednesday’s Louisville women's basketball game at the KFC Yum! Center, Davis said, "Not right now. I have to wait. A lot of people have been wanting to talk to me."
quote:
Hours later, an email from the Louisville basketball program said that Davis would be transferring from the program. A statement from the program within that message read, "Davis has informed that he intends to transfer. We support him and wish him well in the future."
But there was, of course, another hitch. Davis, in response to that statement, posted on X: "I didn't express to anyone at U of Louisville that I wanted to transfer. I never asked to transfer. I enjoy being a Cardinal. The fact an official statement was released giving false information is disheartening and sad."

UL has already matched last year's win total

El Ellis transferred here from Louisville and has already been a part of more wins than they had alll of last year. He was their best player.
Nobody wants any part of that crap.

Their arena is really called the KFC Yum! Center?

You have to rehire Pitino at this point.

Yes for 13 years now. In other news, we landed on the moon

Arkansas State is NOT one of those low key decent basketball programs. They’re garbage pretty much every year. Awful loss.

Yep, they’ll probably hang a banner for that win.

If you listen to his post game press talks you can tell he has no clue what he's doing.
It's just brutal listening to him.

Who is going to be next? I suggest Chris Beard.
