I looked it up and you're correct. It was actually 1999 that Holy Cross won at Destrehan. Chalmette didn't make the playoffs that year either. The Evangel game at Chalmette was a second round game in 2001.

Who was coaching then? I graduated in '90 and kinda lost track of what the school was doing when Coach Brown retired. I started following again when McCarty became coach.

Joe Coates, Scott Martin, Billy Dawson, and then Mickey. Thinking back on it, it’s kind of wild that Neville would have four head coaches in four years. McCarty got the ship back on track and got us back to a championship level. There was a good article in The News Star back in 2020 that kind of lays out the history of what was going on at that time.

I knew Coach Brown stayed on till the Freshman class of my Senior year graduated which probably would have been '94 and yeah reading that article I guess I do remember Coach Coats taking over the ship. He was our DC and golf coach lol. His golf coaching skills were watching the golf team practice at BDCC while he sat in the bar and drank lol. Great guy and solid football coach.
Thanks for sharing that article. I knew Mickey and his wife from well before his time at Neville. You mention John Curtis but I always remember Bastrop being the the thorn in our side while he was there so his state titles were always earned by competing in a really tough district. It was an awesome run for him and really appreciate what he did there.
Back on topic, I really hope Ruston wins this one. Hate to type that but much respect for that program too. We have been tied at the hip with that program for a long, long time and really like Kyle and what he is doing over there.

I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but Ruston definitely has the horses to compete in this game. They’ve got a monster of a team this year.

I too love history but there isn’t much of a cultural connection between Willow today and Fortier (unless you want to go back 70 years)
