Some dude who I assume graduated from KTurd is dropping $300 million on a basketball school? I'm not saying KTurd doesn't occasionally field a decent football team, like every 25-30 years, still, $300 million is impressive. I think T Boone Pickens has dropped over $500 million on OSU so this KTurd donor still has some work to do.

Kansas has been pouring money into their football program (stadium, etc) because they are angling for a Big Ten invite. They don't want to get left behind.
$5 billion net worth. $300 million is couch cushion change for this guy. A rounding error.

$75 million going to football stadium. $225 million going to football in some form
Most of it ends up at the stadium. THey had to stop halfway through because they ran out of money and if I remember right, the total bill to finish the stadium was over $200 million. They can say whatever they want but that is where the money IS going.

If I had $5b in the bank, I would be pumping "fck you" money into LSU every year.
$1,000,000 a year to every 5* recruit
$750,000 a year to every 4* recruit
$500,000 a year t0 every 3* recruit
Call it $100,000,000 a year. For $300,000,000, I would hope to to a least win one title. Create a Dynasty.

I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened yet. How is there not someone out there with billions that are huge football fans and have bought like 30 of the top 40 recruits every year by now?

If I had Elon money I would donate crazy money to some random school with an underwhelming football team....preferably one next to a blueblood. Like Bowling Green! Why?
1. For comic relief watching them assemble the greatest team in college football at the expense of that blueblood.
2. Force the P2 to actually create a viable system with a salary cap and rules. Once Ohio State and Co. realizes there are crazy people with money who can blow the doors off all their donors they will sing a different tune.
Edit: Yes of course I would do the same for WVU. But that would not change college football. All that would do is get us in the SEC.

This is inaccurate. They always planned for two phases in order to be able to play in the stadium this season. If they had done it all in one phase, it would have taken two full seasons. They got a $25M donation last week from another donor, and only $75M of this is needed since the remainder is funded by bonds from the city of Lawrence and the state.
Booth is a founder of one of the first ever index funds back in the 1970’s. He’s known for being a philanthropist: donated $300M to the University of Chicago in 2008, has an endowment fund for the New York Museum of Modern Art, $10M to the University of Texas in 2018. The guy has pledged to donate over half of his wealth before he passes, and this was essentially his final donation to Kansas. It was a one-time gift that KU can used for the immediate future instead of being stretched out in smaller amounts over 10 years.

I work with the design architects. I can tell you with 100% certainty the original plan was to do the whole stadium in one go and then when the money ran out they revised things to allow an indefinite pause at the halfway completion mark because they had no idea when they'd have the rest of the money.

This is significantly different than the way you phrased the first piece. They might have preferred to do it in one go when they originally talked about it, but they split the project into phases before construction even began to ensure funding was in place for the stadium AND development around the stadium. Your other comment sounded like they started building then just had to stop without a plan. They gave themselves plenty of runway to secure the funds for the second half of the project.

Football gives a lot of people great joy. The same way people enjoy spending thousands and millions on cars, boats, vacations, luxury watches, guns, etc. What would you spend your money on if you had billions?

I would continue to travel the world and have more time to do long hikes and mountain climbs. Accomplish things through my own self determination.
I like watching athletes compete, but I don’t give a flying frick who wins.

I promise you if KSU uses this and makes the playoffs, or somehow wins the CFP, Booth will be immortal to them and bring happiness to a whole lot of people.
