This isn't Michigan's first incident, either - not being talked about enough. On Sunday, Juwan Howard slapped a Wisconsin assistant after their loss to Wisconsin. Last month, four teammates had to restrain Moussa Diabate after their loss to Rutgers. Last season, Howard told Mark Turgeon that he was "going to fricking kill [him]" in the middle of a game.
There is a common denominator: Michigan.

Gards mistake is assuming Howard would behave like a mature adult…
And anyone placing any blame at all on Gard are simply attempting to normalize Howard's street thug behavior.

I SO hope the heckling he gets is merciless. It’s going to be an epic flame out at some point for him. And I’ll LOVE* it.
*This assumes he doesn’t murder someone. He has the rage but based on his school girl slap, I doubt there will be any serious injuries

The mental hurdles folks are jumping through to minimize his actions is honestly surprising… yes, Gard grabbed his elbow… but if Howard didn’t want to be touched, why the frick is he going through the handshake line where it’s guaranteed to happen?
We have to take Gard at his word that he was trying to explain why he called a TO… he didn’t want a turnover and only had 4 sec to advance out of the backcourt.
This is all on Howard… Gard being fined is a joke.

If they meet in the B!GT the Badger fans will be merciless.

Oh bc Howard is 6'7 and the lil coach is 5'6 bravo. Keep ur hands to urself. Excusing that is being disengenous and dimissive. He kicked the shite off. Howard was beyond wrong. The coach that was SLAPPED lol not punched amped it up to another level. No reason to step forward in a defensive posture(u cant deny this). Again Howard was wrong. Dismmising Krabbenhoft and Gards role in this blows my mind. But hey Angry Black Man lynch him at all costs. Label him a Thug etc etc.

Which is why I loved the statement from the AD where he said that Greg won’t be paying this fine out of his own pocket.

The usual suspects on this board would want him jailed, not just fired. Their self-loathing is so pernicious that Juwan Howard could have done just about anything and they'd argue that he shouldn't lose his job
I hope you aren’t including Broski in this. He’s not defending Howard because Howard’s black, he’s defending Howard because it gets him a lot of attention.

It's amazing to me how fricking small his punishment is.
He committed assault on somebody. Don't even care for his reasoning, but he should lose his job immediately. No questions asked. Wouldn't want an idiot like that representing my university.
Imagine me doing that at my job I would be fired on the fricking spot. Same should be done with idiot Juwan.

A uniformed policeman actually restrained Howard at one point.
Rumor has it that the MPD asked Gard if he or anyone on his staff wanted to press charges.
Rumor, so take from that what one may. Seems to me it would be University Police at the Kohl Center but not sure as I don't go.

Bucky,
So Michigan did not suspend Howard since there are fines etc...
Am I reading this correctly? If so, Michigan still can fire him for cause after the suspension or suspend him even more?
Again, I am totally shocked that he was not fired already, because of the fact this is the 2nd time he has embarrassed Michigan with stupidity, that involved anotehr program.

The conference apparently can only levy up to two game suspensions, so Howard was suspended by UM as it's five games without pay. $40k fine as well which would be from the B1G.
Supposedly some members of the BOR wanted him fired but not a majority. That was reported by a 247 staffer.

He has to be fired. I mean they can’t say it’s his last time after he said that last time. The AD I think needs his attorney to say violation of morals clause it’s over.

I think some UM BOR members are smart enough to know after multiple transgressions it will happen again. It's not if, but when. Other teams and their fans will try baiting him relentlessly.
And he will again make UM look bad.

It's cute how the Howard defenders continue to have convenient amnesia about everything prior to Gard grabbing Howard's elbow, like it was totally unprovoked.
