Many evaluators Yahoo Sports have talked to have lamented Mac Jones' lack of dual-threat ability. He's simply not a scrambler of any note, and his athletic traits (including raw arm strength) almost certainly will grade as average to below-average compared to other prospects in this class and the NFL's upper-tier QBs.

He's not entirely wrong. I get that Burrow, Kyler, Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, and Watson are all young athletic guys that are either superstars or look really promising, but why are we acting like you cant win with a slower pocket passer?

Super Bowl Starting QBs since 2010

2010 Drew Brees vs. Peyton Manning
2011 Big Ben vs. Aaron Rodgers
2012 Eli Manning vs. Tom Brady
2013 Joe Flacco vs. Colin Kaepernick
2014 Russell Wilson vs. Peyton Manning
2015 Tom Brady vs. Russell Wilson
2016 Cam Newton vs. Peyton Manning
2017 Tom Brady vs. Matt Ryan
2018 Nick Foles vs. Tom Brady
2019 Tom Brady vs. Jared Goff
2020 Patrick Mahomes vs. Jimmy G
2021 Tom Brady vs Patrick Mahomes

Yes a really amazing crop of athletic qbs has entered the league at the same time that a bunch of super successful pocket passers has retired or is starting to decline. But the most important part of being an NFL qb, and the hardest thing to evaluate, is still reading defenses, and being able being great at going through progressions and delivering the ball accurately. For all the shite that Drew Brees has been getting lately for being slow, old, and having a noodle arm, he has faired better in the playoffs than Lamar Jackson since Lamar entered the league

For all we know Mac will be the worst qb to ever start in an NFL game. But qb selection is a crapshoot even for the people who get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to evaluate qbs for their team. Players with equal or similar traits to Mac have consistently been above average starters in the NFL

June Jones was QB coach and interim head coach for Ryan Leaf's rookie season. I knew a lot of guys on the team when he was at SMU. The general consensus was that he didn't care and just wanted a paycheck

I agree. I'm not saying Mac is better than the ND kid because i have not seen him play but....yeah he's better than Lawrence. Comparing hs trevor to hs mac...its no contest. But...that was 4 yrs ago or ..20% of their lives ago.

Good god

There’s a reason burrow went 1 and Mac is looking at 32. Jones turned out better than I ever would have thought but what an awful take.

The NFL passing game is more than deep accuracy now, hell the Saints proved you can have a competent offense and completely ignore the deep ball game.

Sure if you want to make the playoffs and not be a serious contender.

Jimmy GQ is pretty mobile, same level as Burrow. Flacco didn’t have as much wiggle as the Rodgers/Alex Smiths, but he was a tank when we was moving.

Brady wins because he has better supporting casts than everyone he plays and he has the refs on payroll.

I can Find video of Joe climbing the pocket and delivering accurate passes

You can’t find videos of Jones making something out of nothing when there is no pocket to step up into.

You’re a fricking moron.

Who gives a white?

He'd make $100 million bucks a year if he could predict.

Same old shite, assholes, opinions nobody knows squat. Brady 6th round, Montana 3rd round, etc...Akili Smith #3 overall.

Akili Smith is also a QB that June Jones would've loved along with Andre Ware.

Never rely on a QB that has all day to throw and a huge o-line and run game.

I hate QB prospects when they come from programs that just out talent everyone and make boring football.

See Leinart, Dorsey, Bradford.

Shite, give me the Big Bens, Kurt Warner's, Rodgers, And who played for shitty or lower tier programs.

Don't need another AJ holding a clipboard.

I think they're both going to suck in the league.

Big Ben

He was never going to run for 100 yards, but he was terrifying when he got outside the pocket and a younger Ben was as elusive and hard to tackle as any QB in the league.

You thought he was a better prospect before this current season? If so you’re full of shite and if you meant since this past season than why would you ever frame the sentence that way?

Did you not watch him play last year? I never understood why Bama fans were so hard on him. He was gutsy, would make tough throws.

Okay. The difference is you didn't watch every single snap Mac took throughout the 2020 season. I did.

You only saw highlight videos and the fricking arse raping he put on LSU.

The mental gymnastics around here will be the stuff of legend if Tua, Mac, and Jalen all prove themselves to be better QBs than little Joey.

If the Falcons take him at 4 Blank needs to walk into the war room, fire Fontenot on the spot, and make McKay the GM again.

What a terrible pick that would be to start your career as a GM.

Did you link to the part you were talking about?

Because that’s not escaping a collapsing pocket. That Pocket was wide fricking open.

If he was really making something out of nothing and scrambling it would would make a highlight video.

His highlight video is just a Devonta Smith highlight video.

Agreed. It won't happen. I can see Carolina taking him at 8. The word is Rhule loved him at the senior bowl.

if you have the #1 pick and you get a pick in the top 8, and also a 2nd rounder and you get jones and hes your preference anyway then it's a great trade.
there are 4 good ones.
are they an all time QBs class or a couple starters and a bust and a backup?

what is risk of a dual threat?
getting broken in pieces.

I would take jones because the other nominees are more likely to get taken apart at the sideline.
