Pap: Stick him with a fork. He done.
Harper: A lil humility ain't a bad thing.

Papelbon is pissed off because he's washed up and Harper is the king in Washington. What a bitch.
Papelbon is pissed because he drilled Machado because he determined that manny admired his home run off of scherzer for too long. After the game harper, correctly, states that it was bogus of him to throw at manny, and that he, harper, would likely get drilled the next day.
I respect harper for saying that and wish he'd destroyed papplebon.

So you respect Harper for calling out his teammate publicly in the media?

When its for throwing at a guy, absolutely. Especially if that guy is pappelbon.
Here's harper's quote for context
quote:
Manny freakin hit a homer, walked it off and somebody drilled him. It’s pretty tired...I’ll probably get drilled tomorrow"
I think he's right. Pappelbon becomes the arbiter of what's acceptable, throws at a guy, and then will face no repercussions, because it's not like he's gonna get thrown at.

quote:I love how people judge athletes Like they are their little puppets and should do what they say. Do you ever go through the motions at your job? No, never I bet. Harper plays the game as hard or harder than anyone. Not running out a freaking flyball is a complete non-issue. Stop being ridiculous
Honestly can't stand when players don't run the ball out. You make millions yet can't even act like you give a shite for 3 seconds?

Seriously, I would not feel bad at all if he suffered a career ending injury.

IK Enemkpali fights Geno Smith, he's a thug. Pap fights Bryce Harper he's a hero

If that's what it was about I'm all on Pap's side. How hard is it to run out grounders. I'm so sick of major leaguers disrespecting the game and dogging it to first it makes me ill.
And it continues cause no one ever calls these punks on it

he had him by the throat and coming down the stairs... What a puss, Harper would fricking kill him on flat ground...
Agreed.
Jumping down the stairs, sneak attack on the throat. On flat ground Harper would absolutely punish that guy.

sure I do, I know that red sox pitcher was about to beat the unholy shite out of Bryce harper...I'm a fan of casual violence. #teampapelbrawl

Funny thing is all you "run it out" folks would be in here complaining if he was stealing bases up 10 or down 10.
I've never seen Pujols sprint to first base on a pop up or for sure groundout. Ever. Same for Ortiz, Cabrera, and hundreds of other players. Don't see anybody constantly criticizing them.
Can't imagine the hate Harper would be getting if he pulled a hamstring sprinting to first on lazy fly ball.

I don't know who the frick he is, but you should run to first. I imagine because everyone hates him, I might even like him
but it's funny as shite when someone opens their mouth, and then a big hand wraps around their throat. papelbon was about to stomp his arse.

i'll tell you that my roommate made me watch the 07 world series and I kept thinking douche...but damn if I didn't find myself liking the guy after he wrapped his hand around that dude's throat.
btw, papelbon hasn't aged into this 30s well

Same reason no big time NBA players go 100% all the time in the regular season.
It's a long season, conserve as much as you can, don't put yourself in spots where you could also be injured when there's not much good that could come out of it.
Running out every single grounder is on par for me to Lebron diving into the stands in the 2nd quarter of the 25th game of the season against Charlotte, or Aaron Rodgers trying to tackle the guy who intercepted his pass when GB is up 17 in week 7. it's dumb, the value derived from it isn't worth the risk.

from what I hear the kid is supposedly another griffye, and I'd probably like him because he's a mlb superstar who isn't Dominican, but it looks pretty classic
people don't like for you to point out when they're doing something wrong...he's a young guy, he'll mature...but again when he was cursing at him and that hand wrapped around his throat

Anyone catch the article CJ Nitkowski put together? Claims he polled a dozen current or former MLB players about who was in the wrong. This was the results.
So all these guys pretty much take Papelbon's side.
Keep in mind, all these guys are probably 35 or older.
Also, there is already a large biased against Bryce Harper, especially with veteran players it seems. It doesn't help that he is indeed cocky, and that he has been a really good player since he has came up.
My opinion shifts a little, but not too much.

It’s easy to lose sight of what the game was like the further you get away from it, so I polled well more than a dozen former and current players I know about what happened Sunday in Washington.
Not one fully backed Bryce Harper. Not one. Some of what I was told ...
? Pap did what should have been done three years ago. Veteran players should be doing this across the league.
? Right intentions, horrible timing by Pap.
? I would have done the same thing if I were Papelbon.
? Bryce is a great player. He's a true superstar. But he's not above playing the game the right way. I'm glad someone finally told him that.
? I am perfectly OK with Pap’s reaction. I can understand some people having a problem with the timing. At the same time this guy is the MVP.
? Kid has been allowed to loaf for the past two years. Williams got crucified for benching him last year; media and fans took Bryce’s side so he kept doing it and wasn’t getting punished. Veteran finally said something; kid ran his mouth at the wrong guy and got beat up.
? Do it behind closed doors. However, it needed to be done.
? As a teammate you always feel you have the right to say something to someone if you feel it’s wrong or hurts the club. Right after the popup is not the best time to call out a hitter.
? We all know how Harper has behaved since he got called up. But when you’re at that level (MVP for me) why would you not run? It’s not the first time! And why did his manager take him out of the game (after the scuffle)?!?
? You saw Pap say you should run it out which is 100 percent true. I get Harper is frustrated about the at-bat and result but still he’s gotta run it out ... and I don't think the whole Pap hitting Machado the other day and Harper saying what he did helped the whole thing. Pap was probably just waiting for something to happen so he could criticize Harper. If somebody else said, “you need to run it out” I don't think that whole thing would have happened.
? I agree with Pap calling Harper out — hustling and continuous work ethic creates champions. He got the response most players would have probably given from the exchange. Should have been handled in the clubhouse.
? As much as I hate to say it, Albert, Papi and Miggy have earned the right not to run out every ball. Partly age, respect and risk of injury. Harper is 22, he hasn’t earned it.
? I believe if Papelbon was not questioned for his recent actions on the Machado beaning and his other stuff of his past, most people would love what he did. I still loved it and it needed to happen.
? He quit on his team after the fight, just like he does on popups.
