He objectively is. And he isn't constantly injured. The fewest games Jokic has played in any regular season of his career is 69. The MOST embiid has played in a season is 68. These "analysts" need to realize that the best talent isn't automatically one race, nor purely American anymore.

I think a lot of writers, at this point, are worried SGA may miss his window if Jokic keeps winning MVPs. Those are the 2 reasons Rose stole his MVP from Lebron

You said Shai leads the league in scoring because of foul baiting and high FGA. He leads without free throws, and he’s taking a whopping 2 more FGA per game than Jokic.
There’s a reason he’s in the lead for MVP.

Jokic has the best all around game I've ever seen. If he was faster, jumped a little higher, and played a little flashier, the GOAT discussion would probably be over. Shooting 44% from 3 even though he has blown past his career high in 3 point attempts puts him on a whole different tier, IMO.

I think some voters are also reluctant to give him 4 because it ties him with Wilt and LeBron and they don't want to put him in that tier. He's quite clearly having the best, "most valuable" season.

Jokic is a better player than SGA, but the margin is much smaller than you are portraying.
and SGA is deserving in the same way that Derrick Rose deserved it over Lebron in 2011, voter fatigue.
I'm sure Jokic would tell you he is fine with someone else winning one anyway. it's a career accomplishment and there's only 1 to go around.
it isn't strictly "who is the best player this year", and it never has been.

Exactly.

it's like comparing Jordan or Kobe to Lebron.
SGA takes more shots and scores more, Jokic is a more efficient scorer and all around player.
Nuggets play the Thunder tomorrow. sucks that NBA put it in a noon slot because I probably won't be home

SGA is a great player. But how in the world can a guy put together a historic season statistically, and still not win MVP? I mean Luka averaged 34/9/9 and went to the Finals last year so they HAD to give him the MVP, right?...oh wait.

Insane stat and Jokic pretty much coasted to 13/10/10 in the 3rd. Suns came back and he had to turn it on.
Funny thing is Beal had 11 pts when I got the notification for Jokic’s triple double in the 3rd. Mr. Beal ended the game with those same 11pts.

This is going to cause some butt hurt. Facts
Sports and Math
@SportsandMath1
Let me be a hater cause it's fun:
- Jokic's 30/20/20 was not historic, it was actually only the 5th best performance last night itself.
- It was an average game for an MVP Caliber Player like Jokic (or Shai)
- this highlights the plague that stat inflation is on NBA discourse
Jokic "only" had 30% of the average team's production in the game (so 15% of all production).
This game would be below average for prime LeBron, Shaq, or MJ because it was in a 149-141 OT game.
Terrible defense or inflated stats?
Either way, not historic in terms of impact
To simplify my argument (using PTS as a proxy for Production),
- a 43 pt performance looks pretty good in isolation but when you see it was in a 149-141 OT game where you played 45 MPG (29.7%)
- it's not more impressive than a 30 pt performance in a 104-96 regulation win (30%)
Summary: Jokic had a great game in terms of raw stats - 43 when you combine all the stats into 1 number.
But in yesterday's Suns-Nuggets game, 8 players had good/great statistical games: Jokic, Braun, AG, Jamal, Booker, KD, Plumlee, MPJ
So we need to account for stat inflation

Why wasn’t this a post when SGA had 51 and 41 pts (B2B games) against the 4th and 10th best ranked defenses?
Shai is averaging 41 ppg in his last 3 games btw on 57/57/96 splits
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander vs. Suns
50 PTS
8 REB
5 AST
2 STL
1 BLK
73 TS%
We didn’t need 45 minutes and OT to get our stats.
Luka averaged 34/9/10 last season and the reason he didn’t win MVP was because and i quote “sorry Mavs fans, winning matters”
the Mavs finished 8 games behind the Nuggets in 2023-24.
the Thunder are currently 11 games clear of the Nuggets and are only going to extend that lead.
if Luka didn’t deserve MVP last season, Jokic doesn’t deserve it this season.
Don’t let anything distract you from the fact that Jokic is 2-8 against top 4 teams while SGA is 9-2
Jokic v top 10 teams
24 PPG
10 REB
10 AST
3 STKs
61% TS
5-10 Record
Shai v top 10 teams
34 PPG
6 REB
6 ASTS
4 STKS
65% TS
15-6 Record
Am I supposed to care about a game against the Plumlee anchored Suns?
Shai averaging 37/6/7 on 56/54/89 splits and 70 TS% in his last 7 games but jokic had 1 30-20-20 game and now all of a sudden he's mvp

It’s a lost cause, this board thinks the only reason SGA is in the lead for MVP is because he’s black.

I think its mostly posters who only read snippets and read one headline about one game in an 82 game season. Short attention spans. They have no idea who does what all season. I find it funny as they buy in to an attention grabbing headline. Reminds me of our MSM selling news to the masses and people used to believe it until 8 years ago.

@Three_Cone
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander:
Leading the NBA in scoring with 32.8 PPG
Has a 64.5 TS% which is the second best ever for a player averaging 32+ PPG
Most 30, 40, and 50 point games this season
Only has 7 games under 25 points and 10 games of 40 or more points this season
1st in EPM and EW, 2nd in offensive EPM, 95th percentile in defensive EPM
Second in the league in steals (1.8) and first amongst guards in blocks
Best player on a team with the second best net rating of all time and an 11 game lead in the West despite Chet Holmgren missing most of the year, close to the largest gap of all time between a #1 and #2 seed in a conference which is 14 games
Thunder have a net rating of 17.3 when he's on the court which would be the best of all time
Has led OKC to a 12.7 PPG average win margin which would be the best of all time passing the 1972 Lakers
The top two scorers in the NBA this season are Shai and Shai through three quarters
Averaging 41/4/8/1/1 over his last three games on 57/58/97 splits
Having one of the best seasons of all time
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging the fewest turnovers per game (2.5) of anyone in NBA history who has scored 32 or more points per game. Only Michael Jordan (and Shai last year) have ever scored even 30ppg with 2.5 or fewer TOV per game

He'll lose MVP to SGA just like he did with Embiid.
