If he retired today? Absolutely not. Is he on pace? Probably, but didn't he almost retire a few years ago because he couldn't hit. Obviously he figured it out and is fricking awesome now, but Id be scared he falls off a cliff when he does decline for good. He may not stick around for those stat padding seasons a lot of guys get at the end of their careers to get close to the "magical" HOF numbers. He will be an interesting advanced metric case though at worst.

Slim, but possible. He rates pretty closely to McGriff, who has gotten no traction whatsoever. It depends on how he ages. He doesn't have a lot of HR for a power hitting 1B. 253 ain't gonna do it. He needs to be in 400 territory.

Good peak, 1 MVP helps. But only 5 All-Star Games, so its not like he was regarded as the best at his position routinely. He needs to age well.

Todd Helton, Keith Hernandez, John Olerud and Will Clark all have a higher career WAR than Votto and only three HOF 1B finished their career with a lower WAR than what Votto has now (Cepeda, Chance and Bottomley). Plus he's only played the equivalent of nine seasons which means his counting numbers are very low. It took Tony Perez almost ten years to get in and he has nearly double the number of hits and extra bases that Votto currently has. Votto still has some work to do.

He just cant tank over the next two or three seasons. His peak WAR is where it needs to be. All the time he missed in 2014 and 2012 is hurting his career WAR total but he should be there in 2 or 3 seasons as long as he doesn't fall off a cliff

Nowhere near HOF. If he plays 8-9 more years and keeps it up maybe but your crazy to think he is HOF worthy now.

Definitely not HOF already.

Has a shot if he can keep playing at a high level for another 5 years or so.

He should be first ballot, no doubt. But...his counting stats may be lacking. He will definitely meet the WAR threshold for 1B, should be top 5-7 for 1B when he retires. His advanced stats, wOBA, wRC+, and his OBP & OPS are first ballot HOF worthy. He's extremely under appreciated as an all time great hitter.

Joey Votto is 361 hits, 79 doubles, 113 HRs, 417 RBI away from Lance Berkman's career totals.

And Berkman's chances of making the HOF are slim, at best. Votto has work to do.

Hate to do this, but his chances are way higher than slim.

McGriff is retired, Votto is 33.

He's not a power hitting first baseman....thats why. He's a career .313 hitter with a .427 OBP.

DUDE. All star games? These aren't your grandpa's voters and definitely not in 10 years when he is retired and eligible for the HOF.

Votto NL wRC+ 1B rank.

He
He's been the 2nd best hitter in baseball since 2010 only behind Mike Trout, who is basically Mickey Mantle reincarnate.

He needs to age OK. He needs maybe another 10 WAR over the rest of his career and I'd venture he gets to 70. He's aged very well so far and he's in the best shape of his career.

Since 2010 Votto is:

WAR-2nd
AVG-3rd
OBP-1st
SLG-5th
OPS-1st
wOBA-1st
wRC+-2nd

Does the name Votto mean anything to you? I get it, he's not exactly a likeable guy, and he's not putting up the sexy counting stats that people love...RBIs(he's 19th since 2010), HRs(he's 15th since 2010), and Runs(he's 7th since 2010). But, as you can see, he's also not lacking in these categories. The man does his job as a hitter, not making an out nearly 44% since 2010. I suspect if Votto had a different personality(Trout) and played for a bigger market team, the way he would be viewed would be quite different. We'll see how history treats him.
