I would. He hits for enough power to typically make up for the giant floor his obp could possibly have. And he's shown to have some defensive potential. And he's just now entering his prime

I think he is a starter who plays good defense but sucks at the plate. Worth keeping out the lineup most years? No. Worth throwing a ton of money in to? No.

How is he a good starter if he sucks offensively? Makes no sense

Well I guess we’d be watching the end of his contract together because that’s where’d you end up. The guy is the Aaron Gordon of baseball. Don’t get caught up in the measurables.

He is having a good year at OBP. He is drawing tons of walks this year which leads to improvement in future years. Everything with this guy though is feast or famine and I wouldn’t like those types as the centerpiece of my ball club. Think Adam Dunn.

he'd only be 32 at the end of a 5 year deal

I think he plays good defense and is a risk offensively. I think that sucks if you’re trying to pay $20M+ a year.

I’d call that great if you’re paying 10-14M

I am hoping the Rangers trade him at the deadline. No need to keep him around

You would pay 10-14m a year for a good defensive RF who sucks offensively? Does he suck offensively or is he a risk? Tough to keep up

Here is another thing, he isn’t a ‘good’ corner OF. He is coming off of winning a gold glove and will be in contention again this year.

Add in the fact that he is a big power bat that gets on base at somewhat high rate and he is definitely one of the better players in the league.

Lol it’s hilarious to me that some of these guys who probably have watched less than 50 games that this guy has played are telling me he isn’t good and isn’t worth resigning.

He isn’t going to be a top guy in the order, but if he can play the Nelson Cruz role then I’ll be happy. $0-25 mil a year will be a bargain soon, especially if it’s over the course of his prime.

I agree on the defense, my point is you pay corner OFs in free agency who produce offensively (which Gallo does). The takes are all over the map with this one though.

I’d be interested to see Gallo play full time in CF (I guess if he gets traded or Garcia falls off). I think he’s looked good there in the past

Yes, that’s another unique thing about him. He is extremely athletic as well as being a massive human.

He’s looked solid in CF, like you said. I’d like to think Leody Taveras figures it out and will be a solid BA guy for us in CF, but he was beyond bad when he started the year in CF.

I’ll certainly be cheering for Adolis, but I’ve seen these Cuban power guys flame out too many times now with Cespedes and Puig to believe he’ll maintain it.

Adolis profile is scary, some guys are so explosive they can make it work for a few years. He certainly destroyed us

I like Gallo and think he’s a great player, but and I know this is going to sound archaic and old stupid baseball think, I wouldn’t build around him.

For as good as the advanced numbers are I truly don’t think he’s a “winning” player because he’s so feast or famine. And in the postseason or down the stretch I don’t think I could trust him in a spot that REALLY matters to put the ball in play to help the team. Again it may sound stupid and I could be wrong but just my take on him.

He’s fricking incredible long term over 162, but don’t think that translates to big moments.

I think you need to have contact profiles elsewhere in your lineup to balance it out for sure

He’s a really unique/divisive player but fun to watch when he’s not playing against my team

Agreed.

So I’ll go ahead and contradict myself with the point you just made. You could build around him because his profile is so unique. He’s just such an interesting case.

Admittedly I’m extremely spoiled by watching the Astros every day over the last 6 years who have a lineup full of adaptable hitters

You aren’t wrong. Gallo was having a disappointing year before early June.

He definitely has been a guy that will go off for a few weeks at a time that hides his droughts.

Before the all-star break from mid June he had like a .475 OBP and closed out the first half with 10 bombs in 10 games I believe.

Imo he is the most fun player to watch his stat line progress throughout the year on baseball reference. I really do think he is one of the more unique offensive guys to watch over the last decade or so.

Yea it’s like Shane said, if the rest of your lineup is constantly putting the ball in play and Gallo is still drawing his walks during the power slumps it’s not the end of the world. He’s so unbelievably unique
