The Rangers aren't having a great year, but I can't stop watching Texas and part of it is because of Joey Gallo and what he's done this season, especially since the all-star break.

Joey Gallo's slash line up through today's game:

.212/.325/.570

32 HR, 61 RBI's, a 13% walk rate and a 37.7% K rate.

He hit his 7th home run in his last eight games today, walked three times and struck out once.

This was one of those eight HR's. The only one I've seen hit further in CF was one by Josh Hamilton and he hit it clean over the concession.

Pre-All Star break slash line -
.194/.313/.508

Post All Star break-
.279/.372/.794

Random stats:

He has 67 hits on the year w/ 32 of them being bombs in 315 AB's. So almost 48% of the time he gets a hit it's a home run.

Over 70% of his hits this season are for XBH.

Gallo only has 20 singles this year. He has 48 walks.

He leads the majors in ISO w/ a .358....next closest is Bellinger w/ a .343.

He's at 9.85 AB's per HR at the moment and that would be the lowest since Barry Bonds' 8.5 PA/HR in 2004. The next lowest is Ryan Howard whose number was 10 PA/HR in 2006.

He is striking out once in every 2.2 AB's, which would be a new league record

His wRC+ is 130

His WAR in 2017 is 2.7 (Per Baseball Reference). A player he is often compared to by outside media is Chris Carter (Yankees, Astros, Brewers), however, that isn't necessarily valid. Carter has a career WAR of 2.3.

He may be the most unique and extreme player in the game.

Another surprising, interesting Gallo fact: he ranks fourth in the majors in Fangraphs baserunning stat behind Billy Hamilton, Dee Gordon and Jarrod Dyson. Not a group you would expect to see him with.

I think he's 6-6 in attempts stealing this year. He doesn't go often, but when he does he's usually there. He's an athletic freak in general.

He must take the extra base often and never run into outs also. I think double plays hit into may be part of their metric as well, and he only has one on the year. Which I guess is what happens when you next to never hit groundballs.

He has gotten a lot better

However, as we learned in the 2000s, pitching is what will hold this team back for the next few seasons baring some crazy free agent signings. I know a big push for Kershaw will be made but not sure if he will leave LA.

If he could just hit .250 consistently that would be great. I hope this isn't just an aberration and that he's turning a corner. I know Dunn was like a career .240 hitter so he still has some work

It's just astonishing how far his plate discipline has come since last year. I remember being adamant about trading him. I never would have thought I'd see him have a three walk game, and today was his second this season.

He's still young and if he can lower the K's a bit and bump the average up he could be a genuine MVP candidate in the future.

The one thing that separates him from a lot of the guys like Dunn, Reynolds, Chris Davis, etc...is that he's actually a great fielder and has a cannon arm.

I was looking at statcast statistics today and he's up there w/ Judge, Stanton and crew in average exit velocity off the bat, but there is a MASSIVE difference in the average launch angle amongst the three. Iirc, Stanton and Judge were somewhere between 10-20 degrees and Gallo was in the mid 20's.

Saw him play for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans a few years back. He looked like a big league hitter back then.

As a Rangers fan, this is infuriating. Gallo, and the team in general, are masters of the solo homerun. The team has an abysmal BA and while I haven't checked the stats, their BA with RISP has got to be bottom 5 of MLB.

I believe that was the year that him and Kris Bryant were in the minor league HR race and Bryant squeaked it out like 43 to 42.
