Roger Craig made the comment on one of the NFL Network’s top 10 shows that if the Dome Patrol Saints had an offense, they would have won two or three Super Bowls. He was that complimentary of the Saints linebackers.

In my opinion he is the GOAT.

So I watched the clip of that Eagles game and the thing that stands out the most is how sloppy teams were. I looked it up and teams threw 50% more interceptions per game and had 50% more fumbles per game back then.
People will probably blame rule changes, but the fact is teams were just simply unpolished. Not much different than 1980s basketball.

Joe Montana: Cool Under Pressure (Peacock)
Joe's the one QB I want with the game on the line, GOAT Brady being a close 2nd. I wish Montana's legacy as the GOAT (at the time) endured longer than it did like MJ's presently, when he was in the zone, nobody in the history of the planet played QB better plus he did it in a way more violent era of football than today.

It’s great… I can’t see the underdog angle but yeah I enjoyed it

Those Dome Patrol linebackers were basically the only players on that defense who could make plays and swing the momentum of games because, if they didn't, no one else on that defense could. With the exception of LT, they were a better linebacking corps than the 80s Giants (and Rickey Jackson could do a believable LT impersonation at times) and deserve their place in history as the best LB corps of all-time.

Some average arse players there besides Rice. He had Walsh's offense and Rice.
Roger Craig belongs in the Hall of Fame. The guy was a game changer with his receiving skill from the backfield, not to mention he was a hell of a runner.
John Taylor was a hell of a player too.
Rathmann on those lead blocks was a freaking machine.
Montana is one of the GOAT, but he did have weapons around him.

Brady gets touched and he cries. That's not GOAT status in my book

quote:+1 Dude took some shots. Would be interesting to see him play in today's environment. Yes, he had talent around him, but there's a case to be made that he made all those guys better. He's a great example of what matters in a QB and it isn't raw physical talent. He was a great athlete, didn't have a cannon, was a good enough runner, but what he had between the ears was what made him great. If the game's on the line, I'd want Joe as QB.
In my opinion he is the GOAT.

I absolutely don't believe Dwight Clark, Freddie Solomon, Brent Jones, Roger Craig, John Taylor, John Rathman and even Jerry Rice become who they became without Joe as their QB. Maybe outside of Rice (who, even then, people doubted because of the size of his school and his relatively slow 40 time), none of the aforementioned players were household names or stars when they joined the NFL, they were nobodies and even Joe wasn't highly regarded despite that he was the starting QB at Notre Dame. His ability to execute that offense and lead men who weren't as talented as others is one of the great accomplishments in sports history and why that team is legendary.

I watched 5 episodes it pretty good. I don’t think the 6th episode is available yet. They have been releasing it weekly.

Back then the experts, including Sumerall and You know who , said he made the players around him that much better and that was his true gift.

He is a better Burrow comp than a lot of guys in the raw talent compared to intangibles ratio

It's beyond insulting to claim Rice needed anyone & stop googling that he ran a 4.7 in the 40 yard dash because it isn't true. Jerry Rice was not slow.

Yes and they actually tackled hard during his era. They also hit quarterbacks back in the day. Also chucked wide receivers.
Today’s football is totally different. It’s like 7on 7 league.

Yes I pointed this out

You need to understand some context about 1985: I already made my point about Rice coming out then so repeating it would be redundant, by then, Montana was an established professional and known commodity: 2x 2nd team all-pro, 3x Pro Bowler, 2x Super Bowl champ, and 2x Super Bowl MVP. Rice goes to any other team than the 49ers around the position he was ultimately drafted, hard to say what would've happened in terms of his statistical production and accolades if someone like Tony Eason or old Danny White was his QB. The talent and work ethic was always there but it was Walsh and Montana who molded that clay to become arguably the GOAT NFL player and I say that with complete confidence.

Hasn't been effectively rebutted so I stick with what I said.
