Joe Girardi just made the umpires check for substances on Max Scherzer mid inning

Max made a big spectacle of it and then promptly sat down the next three batters before staring down Joe on his way to the dugout. Joe came out and ran his mouth

It was the third time in four innings as well that Girardi called for a check, and I LOVE Scherzer's reactions to it.

And FWIW, I'm on Scherzer's side here. He's always done it the right way and Girardi is a douche.

They just talked about it on MLB tonight and Pedro said he would be pissed if a manager had him checked several times for a foreign substance.
Pedro also said Scherzer needs to control his emotions if it happens again because he said someone on the opposing team will step up to Max.
They didn’t bring up the Zimmer incident, though.

I interpreted what he was saying as Joe needs to watch his emotions because not every pitcher would be as calm as Max was.
