Why did Aaron Rodgers turn into the best QB in NFL history?
Because Brett Favre! Duh!

He started playing defensive line in 2009 his first year at Wisconsin. He was still learning the technique of the position.
he played DE in high school, redshirted at Wisc in 2008 as a defensive end, and made his college debut there in 2009.
Im sure his technique did improve as most players would. It doesn't explain his utter physical dominance

He was a "monster" at Wisconsin? Meh, i wouldn't say that. He was very good though. What exactly changed to make him an elite pass rusher? Why couldn't he do this then? How come he can have 2x's as many QB hits as the 2nd place guy in the NFL, yet could only muster 11sacks in 2 years of the Big 10?
Why do some guys suck in college but are successful in the NFL. How do guys like Tebow, Vince Young who are GOATS in college suck in the NFL?
Shite happens. He learns proper technique. He gains speed and gets a personal trainer and learns from the same pass rush specialist as Clay matthews? There are many ways to be successful. He always had the tools, maybe he just didn't have the coaching or opportunities to be successful.

You have a point, but he was already 6'5 240 before he went to CMU. Then he transferred to Wisky and its not impossible for him to have put on 20 pounds of muscle in 3 years of college workout programs
And then 20 more given the offseason workouts NFL teams can produce. frick look at Tom Brady this. He's way bigger than he used to be. A lot thicker up top and in his legs. Working out has almost become a science with some of the technology they have and we may not even get to see.

I was listening to a podcast the other day and an NFL scout was talking about Rodgers coming out of college. He wasn't that impressive. Didn't have the strongest of arms. Etc.
Then all of a sudden he is clearly the best QB in the league (with a fricking rifle for an arm) producing numbers that are BY FAR the best in NFL history. Why is that?

False, he played QB, then TE.

Per Wikipedia...
quote:
Watt attended Pewaukee High School, where he was a four-year letterwinner in football and also lettered in basketball, baseball and track and field.[6] During his senior year, he was selected for first-team All-State. During this time, he became a breakout football player, earning the Woodland Conference Player of the Year Award his senior year, and first-team All-State, All-County, All-Area, and All-Conference selections as tight end and defensive end.

I can google "JJ Watt work ethic" and I will see countless articles and interviews about how he got mad that he was locked out of a facility at 3 A.M. and how it all started when someone at Central Michigan said he was too small to play for Wisconsin. There are very few players you can find that kind of press on
Who is going to read the article about the 8th string WR fighting to keep his spot on the practice squad with his insane work ethic?

quote:I've talked about this before when people bring up Kobe Bryant being the hardest worker in the NBA. We only ever recognize so and so as the hardest worker when he's one of the best players.
Like who? Who puts in the same amount of work as JJ Watt? Give me a specific player, and I'll give you my answer
WHile these guys are surely up there, my guess is some of the hardest workers in sports are actually the fringe guys trying to make the team or keep their spot as the 12th or 45th man on the roster, and get that 6 figure paycheck and continue on with the dream they've probably had all their lives.

I understand players get better. But try and wrap your mind around the stratosphere he is on right now. And what he once was. It's not something that can be explained by saying "he corrected his technique and bloomed late".

And he was still a 2-star recruit.
Wisconsin parents need to stop feeding those fatasses so much cheese.

quote:Sure, but it's as likely to be a freak, unexplainable occurrence as is it's because of steroids.
I don't know how he did it, but it sure is fishy
quote:Players also don't become that just by taking steroids either.
Players don't all of a sudden turn into 20 sack NFL players. Not when you hadn't hit double digits at any point in your career
quote:Better question is if it's that simple that steroids can make that much of a change, then are you saying hardly any NFLers are doing steroids? I assume not, so why are all the other NFLers who are doing steroids not doing the same thing?

All of a sudden? The dude sat on the bench for 3 fricking years in Green Bay. and arguably didn't hit greatness until his 7th year in the league.

WR's? There are tons of speedy guys out there. 6'5" 290 lb linemen with 55" verticals are a TOTALLY different story.

So if all those 20 sack guys were always great are you saying
a) JJ Watt is the first player to be able to elevate himself to that level using steroids
or
b) Those guys took steroids too, they just did it sooner in their career

How do you explain Strahan's 18 sacks in his 1st 4 seasons, then all of a sudden in year 5 at 26 he gets 14 sacks in 1 season?
