This lady writes some pretty enlightening articles on the how this kind of thing will affect the business of college football.
www.businessofcollegesports.com
Nothing new on it today except for the promise of an article a day on OSU!

Spielman's call-in reaction on ESPN.com is awesome. I agree with him 100%. I have always loved Spiels.

Very good. And I completely agree. I miss Spiels on the Fan.

"If you know one of your guys is, you know, selling rings for tats or rings for cash, or whatever, then look man, wait another year. When you get out of here, do what you want. I don't care what you do with your ring. You know, put it up in the carnival for a (balloon ring?) sale or whatever. But what you're not gonna do, you're not gonna jeopardize my career and what I stand for."

What happened with that? I turned it on the other day and heard Rothman and DS?

Spiels left to do a show for ESPN which will air in the fall. The premise is he goes to high schools and they do like Extreme Home Makeover but for their athletic facilities. He probably left to do that in February.
Then when all of this Tressel shite hit the fan (lol pun) Hooley went off one day and pissed some people off and was warned not to do it again. Well the next day it was a similar thing and he was fired.
Rothman and DS have replaced them on the Big Show. But they've been teasing that Spiels is back in August, but they've haven't said if its his own show or with somebody or what time slot.

I like DS on BFF, but I don't on the radio like that. Rothman is ok, but also like him better on TV. Neither are as good as Hooley and Spielman. Neft isn't bad and Common Man's hit and miss. Torg is still my favorite Fan personality.

Torg & Common Man together are fantastic - when its only one of them its not nearly as good.
Spiels and Hooley were great together - but I usually didn't listen when it was one of them.
Don't really like Neft - Rothman and DS are ok, but I agree not up to par to be in their time slot IMO.

I know this may get the black helicopter, but I think this is exactly what happened. Tress didn't send the email on because he knew not to, but he sure as shite told other people about it or showed it to them. The reason I think others knew is that the Yahoo story was based on like one unnamed source and there was no denial or saying they needed to investigate. That same day, OSU rolled out the preplanned response in case the crap hit the fan. It was sort of like, "JT, if this ever comes out, you take the initial hit and we'll back you."
Oh, and Spielman is a badass.

OSU fans will never understand this.

It's not that I don't understand its a possibility, its just that without actual evidence it doesn't fricking matter. The NCAA can't nail them for something that can't positively be proven.

This was my theory around a week after the story broke. I think he's covering Gene Smith's arse.

OK. What is a fair penalty for OSU???? LOOK OSU is one of the TOP programs in the country and got caught. Tressles rep is GONE. Pryor & company proved they think they can get away with what they want. The SUGAR Bowl shite is what pisses me off the most. "Just let them play in this game and they will be out for the 1st 5 games of next year" SHAME on the NCAA.

Maybe we should wait and see what the NCAA finds? That sounds like a good idea.

I've already said what I think a fair penalty is. I think it will mirror what happened to USC. Might be a little less, might be a little worse depending on what is actually known, not all of this he said she said bullshite. Tressel being gone and not being any proof of others knowing about the shite is going to be in OSU's favor. It makes it look like a contained incident and that cause of it is no longer there. The car situation needs to develop further for there to be any real punishment from it IMO. I can see OSU getting off pretty lightly, or I can see them getting hammered. It seems like they are really tightening down on punishments.

Are you seriously trying to reason with Peej? 2PM or son on Labor Day, he is probably well into his second case of Natty Light by now.

The double-edged sword. Just as they don't have subpoena power, they also don't have the burden of proof that prosecutors must show. They can nail OSU without actually proving anything. They wouldn't, but they could.
Posted on 5/30/11 at 2:22 pm to SprintFun
the ncaa couldnt PROVE what happened at usc, they heard testimony and BELIEVED IT TO BE TRUE........ then HAMMERED usc..... ncaa doesnt have to PROVE anything, its not a court of law... oh, and osu deserves MORE PUNISHMENT than usc got.....roll tide ....*uburn, your next for the NCAA .........
Posted on 5/30/11 at 2:28 pm to Fububutsy
If OSU fully cooperates and there is no proof that others were involved, what are the gonna do?

From now on, they might be okay. Tressel resigning gives them a ray of hope. If he was the coach to start the season the NCAA would have gone after them really hard. The Compliance Department needs to be squeeky clean or this will explode into the dreaded "lack of institutional control". If that happens OSU is fricked.
