How does this compare to USC? I think that involved improper payments to one player and his family for a house and car.
This involved many players getting improper benefits from a tatoo parlor and a car dealership and a head coach covering it up.
I think it could be worse for tOSU.

I haven't read this whole thread so forgive me if this has been covered but...
Musburger is saying on ESPN that all of tOSU's wins from the past season, including the Sugar Bowl, will probably be vacated bc they used ineligible players. Why would the Sugar Bowl win be vacated? Correct me if I'm wrong but hadn't the players been ruled eligible for the Sugar Bowl as long as they served their 5 game suspension at the start of this season?

I really don't think so. USC purposefully hindered the NCAA investigation into everything which is why they got hit so hard. OSU by all accounts has been fully forthright with everything and the person who caused it all has resigned. It will be a bowl ban and scholarship reduction I think, but people who want the death penalty will be pretty disappointed.

The issue here isn't what was covered up, it's who knew about it. If it was just Tress, then they could have had a ring of drug dealers on the team, it'd probably be probation. If the car stuff and all that is true, and people like Gee and Smith knew about it (or they hindered the investigation to try to keep Tress safe), that's where OSU will be screwed.

Yes - OSU ruled them ineligible and the NCAA stepped in and ruled them eligible. I really don't see how then can take that game away. The rest of 2010 and probably 2009 are gone though I'd think. Maybe 2008 too? IDK.

OSU should throwout the entire coaching staff and NCAA compliance office, because they were all involved.

No, they weren't.
All of their email history has been scoured and nobody but Tressel knew.

i'm reading through the whole thread, but wondering...
this SI.com article comes out in the next 24 hours. apparently, it was yet another bombshell and prompted Tosu to go ahead and make a move.
any ideas what it will reveal?

So all of the OSU legal and IT departments are in on it too?
And the plot thickens!

Yeah, because there's clear proof of that. What a dumbass statement to make.

At the time the NCAA didn't know there was a cover-up going on though.

they had been ruled eligible. however, since they were ineligible for the entire year, they shouldn't be rewarded with the win since the players shouldn't have played during the year.
Since the players were basically ineligible for the entire year, they shouldn't have gotten to the Sugar Bowl and hence the reinstatement should not matter at all.

Don't tell me for one minute that others didn't know. Come on VA. I respect ya as a poster, BUT this is SOME SERIOUS LYING AND CHEATING going on, even more than we know as of now. THINK ABOUT IT.TRESSEL quiting is just the tip of the iceberg.

Yeah, it's not really hard to find something through an IT audit during an investigation. The only way that someone else was told without being able to find proof would be a face to face conversation. Any hints of communication about this scandal through a computer and IT gurus can sift through and find that kind of stuff pretty easily.

Spielman's call-in reaction on ESPN.com is awesome. I agree with him 100%. I have always loved Spiels.
