This has been said about a lot of OSU wide receivers. Then they get to the pros and get a reality check.

He's insanely good. He's a good example of a guy who very well should probably opt out of his junior year. He's guaranteed to be a top 5 pick once he declares.

I think he should enter the portal now. Dude already has a natty, and could garner Bryce underwood type money on the open market.

Kid has already shown he could go to the nfl right now, may as well get paid as much as possible over the next 2 seasons he is forced to play in college.

*I can’t see OSU NIL ponying up big dough for next season, they got their money’s worth this season, no need to spend big next year for them.

OSU had 3 of the top 15 WRs in the league this year. If thats a reality check I can live with it

And Hartline. He’s not leaving Hartline. Best wide receiver coach and recruiter in the game.

There's a big jump between being in the top 15 WR in a year and being one of the best of all time. You know that.

He'll be a pro bowl caliber WR, but I don't think he'll be generational like Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss.

Despite his age, he's pretty much fully developed physically and his frame is close to maxed out. He has very good size for an NFL WR, but he's not some unicorn. His speed is average, high 4.4-low 4.5, and his route running is already so refined there's not much room for growth.

He'll get better in some ways, but he's already so advanced both physically and developmentally for his age, I think he's fairly close (90% or so) to maxing out his potential.

Those guys with the big bucks just got what they were paying for though. Telling them they need an additional $10m to keep a guy that’s already on the team is going to be a harder sell than you think.

It’s not just an OSU problem, it’ll be a new problem going forward for anyone who wins a title and has an incredible freshman talent like that.

His nil “valuation” is @ $3.7m from Google search… He would be crazy to not entertain an offer of 2x to 3x that.

1. Start a bidding war over Smith's services and steadily increase the offer by $100,000 until Ohio State gets priced out

2. Reneg on the deal immediately after Ohio State drops out

They'll be forced to pay him whatever was agreed to prior to them dropping out, which will cripple the roster with a WR eating most of the NIL, and it'll drive a wedge between Smith and Ohio State because he'll feel like they don't truly value him after refusing to match whatever final offer

Jesus Christ. Frick it just skip CFB and go straight to the pros. He's an exceptionally talented kid but people annually forget how good NFL DBs are. Instead of everybody opting out they need to, hell I don't know, actually play football
