Didn't this board always rag the Pac-10/12 never playing any defense?
He also dominated those defenses for the most part. What does that have to do with what I said?
quote:
Jameis may very well do the same.
Maybe, but this thread is ridiculous.

I'd say Jameis is right up there for Prison Bowl MVP right after Cecil Collins and Maurice Clarett

That's a bit unfair. He was riding an emotional high, and he just played 4 quarters of intense football.
I agree, but I think it is more than a bit unfair, and it seems to me that there are racist overtones to some of the criticism being directed at Winston.
Then you also have people that want to go around looking for verbal errors to point out so that they can feel superior. Most of it is trivial bullshite. Generally, it's criticism of frivolous details that don't even affect the gist of what's being said.

I get that you're doing the cutesy mockery thing, but that quote is about having TRUST in your teammates and being a leader.
If you don't understand that, you don't understand football.
If you don't understand that, you don't understand football.

He's just another Bama fan obsessed with one of the greatest players from Alabama ever that will never play a down for the tide.

That success in team sports is based on trusting your fellow teammates? Of course I don't. As Genghis Khan once said, "one arrow can be easily broken, but many arrows are indestructible."
Sometimes you just have to look at the humor in a situation though.

Jameis is going to be a better qb prospect than luck
Disagree
He didn't look impressive at all vs someone (Auburn) other than the weak ACC.

If anything. The actual quote/meaning was pretty good.

When you first started this thread months ago I said no i dont think he will be a better QB prospect than Luck. And at the end of the season i still dont think he is on that level.
Yea he won the Heisman. Yea he won the Natl Champs. Yea he has good #s. But none of that matters. If Luck was on a team loaded with skill players and a D like FSU, he would of had better #s. Pointless to compare stats with college players. FSUs players > Stanford players, especially skill players.
I can sit here and go through every little aspect of it in Luck vs Winston. Mechanics, strength, accuracy, leadership, etc. But it just all adds up to 1 thing: Winston wont be a better QB prospect than Luck. Sure he most likely will go #1. Might even win another Heisman or a Natl Champ. But he still wont be a better prospect than Luck. Thats all that it boils down to.
If they were the same age, and came out in the same draft, you would take Winston over Luck?? I highly doubt that. I know i wouldnt.
Luck was the best QB prospect to come out since Elway. Hes a once in a decade type of QB. WInston is going to be good, but just wont be on that level.
Lets look at the top QBs drafted into the NFL in the past few years and see how Winston matches up:
Luck ( on a diff level than every other QB drafted in the past few years)
Cam Newton
RG3
Locker
Bradford
Freeman
Kaep
He fits into that list, more so than with Luck. Could he be a better prospect than those guys?? Yes. Its close between he and Cam. From what Ive seen Winston do so far, I think I would take Cam ahead of him right now. Cam pretty much did the exact same thing Winston did, but in the SEC when Bama and LSUs defenses were loaded.
Winston dominates teams like Wake Forest, Duke, Miami, etc. But, he straight up struggled and at times looked very flustered vs Auburns D, which was a middle of the pack D in the SEC.
Its still early in his career, but I just dont think he will become the type of prospect that Luck was coming out of college. Hes on level with a lot of other top QBs to come out in the past few years. But Luck is just on a diff level than all of them, and pretty much every other QB prospect to come out in the past 20 years or so(on par with Manning in terms of being a prospect IMO). So if you think Winston will be a better prospect than Luck, you are saying hes the best prospect to come out in 20 years or so. And hes not.

Alright. I just don't see the humor in this situation. I think it's based on unwarranted criticism, and I'm picking up racial overtones. Not necessarily in that post, but just scattered throughout the wave of stuff that's being said about JW.

ETA: I somehow managed to watch zero college football this year. From the one game I saw of JW (National Championship game), his arm didn't really impress me. Sailed a lot of throws. Was inaccurate. Pass rush really threw him off. Can this all be fixed? Sure. With age comes maturity and experience. He's very young. But I wouldn't put him ahead of Luck, yet.

He's good but the dude is way overrated. Like ungodly overrated.
I'm honestly not even close to convinced he was the best QB Auburn played this past season.
