They currently have nothing and getting a double A baseball team a second chance is fair. They have a legit stadium in Pearl. Don't care if it's minor league Athletics. I love baseball. Someone rich with connections act.

They have much bigger problems to figure out than a lack of a minor league team and because of demographics issues there’s not much chance a minor league team would want to move there.

They got a less polarizing mayor so that's worth something.

They did alright in the 90's with the Jackson Generals, so it can be done (again).

No. No, it doesn't. Drive through Jackson and see for yourself.

Also, check on the attendance at the MS Braves games from the past few seasons.

Yeah the Jackson Generals in Tennessee is an entirely different organization than the Jackson (MS) Generals.

Didn't an independent minor league team start playing at Trustmark Park after the M-Braves left?

ETA: Yep

Not sure what the Jackson mayor has to do with baseball in the region. No one’s playing in Hinds ever again

They’re realistically cooked as a minor league metro. Their last 4 seasons they were the 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st least-attended team in AA. That's not good. The inexcusable / disqualifying part is they are the affiliate of the unanimous MLB team of the region, which is a boon few minor league markets get to experience. It should have guaranteed the M-Braves solid attendance in perpetuity. There's no reason to assume another team could even equal the apathy people felt for them at the end

Maybe in a decade they can build something off 55 in Madison where more of the discretionary income is (like a northward march to Marietta 2.0) but that metro deserves a cooling off period. They didn’t take care of what they had

It’s a suburb of a dying metropolitan area and the thread is titled “Jackson, MS needs a baseball team”.

Mobile lost their team and they’re actually growing on the eastern shore over there.

To pull a team you need a strong area to pull from and/or a big corporate sponsor.

3 years ago I was in Jackson for a week and went to 4 games in that week. There was NOBODY there. Jackson has much bigger shite to worry about than minor league baseball - same for NOLA(although name change may have sunk NOLA).

What’s like independent minor league like? Bottom of the barrel? Are most good prospects in a league affiliated with a MLB team?
