Skip Bertman told the story years ago on the Hanny and Ott show. At the time, Del Rio was coaching the Jaguars and they were having a bad season. Del Rio showed up at a restaurant for an interview with Skip and other LSU leaders, then his agent called him while he was still in the car. The agent warned Del Rio not to go in for the interview, because that would give Jacksonville cause to fire him and not pay out the rest of his contract. So he ghosted LSU.

They weren't having a "bad" season. Jacksonville was 8-7 when the interview would have taken place. LSU had set up a clandestine interview while Bertman was in Orlando for the Citrus Bowl. JDR didn't interview because it would breach his contract. But he didn't just "ghost" Bertman. JDR's agent informed him of the circumstances.
Skip didn't want to wait until after January 2nd (when the NFL season ended) to interview JDR, so he made the decision to go with Les.

Never forget that in January 2005 Jack Del Rio set up a meeting with LSU for the head coaching job, pulled up to TGI Fridays, they saw him sitting in the parking lot but he never went inside because he shite his pants
Feels like a Netflix documentary.
How 1 bad meal impacted LSU football for the next 15 years

I lived in BR back then and I remember Jimmy Ott being high on Del Rio as the next LSU coach.
I was hoping Del Rio would be the guy, too. Who knows, he might have worked out to be a great college coach. I remember his Jacksonville teams to be pretty decent.
Wish him the best and hope he resolves any potential issues.

quote:Some real alcoholics think they function pretty well, and can get away with wasted driving. When I was pledging in my fraternity in the late 70's we had an alumni who had gotten multiple DWI's. He had all of our phone numbers to call for rides. He was a loan officer at a bank, and had plenty to lose, but continued driving drunk. Got stopped again and put in jail for 18 months. Back then the DWI didn't get him put in jail, but drinking period was breaking his probation.
How do these people not use Uber or call someone? I mean they have the $$ to do it
