he's swinging at more pitches inside the zone this year. He's leading the league in HR. Shocking how that happens huh bare

Yet his OPS+ or wRC+ is right on par with his other good seasons and he's still on pace for ~7 WAR which he has had in other good seasons.

Career slash line with RISP

.333./.483/.591

WTF more do you want him to do.

I dont vote for the HOF. He will have to have better counting stats to get in.

HR is the most reachable. I think if get can get to 400 he'll be ok. He wont get 3k hits. He walks too much. Winning another MVP would help too

I don't think when he's eligible, likely 15 years or so from now, the writers will hold him to antiquated HOF standards.

Fingers crossed

I think Votto has a solid chance at making the HOF, once voters look more at the ratios and sabermetric stuff, I just don't think he's going to go first ballot because his counting stats won't quite be there.

Assuming he stays healthy and productive he's looking like Jeff Bagwell with a little less counting stats but slightly better ratios.

I'm fine with that. As long as Votto doesn't develop a career killing injury next season.

Votto for sure isn't a first ballot HOF lock, I just think his skillset ages well and he's been relatively injury free most of his career, which i feel will make him a sure bet to get into the Hall.

Cano should be first ballot he's the 4th or 5th best 2b of the last 50 years

He's one of the best hitting 2B of all time, mostly because 2B was full of shitty hitting players. Gets a huge WAR boost from playing 2B.

Do most ppl not think Yadi will land In the hall eventually? I'm not trying to say he's absolutely good enough but he's arguably the best defensive catcher of all time and he's been solid for a catcher at the plate

Again I'm not arguing he's a sure thing numbers wise but considering how political it is and how much he is respected in the game I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't get there eventually

ETA: if it's not clear, OF COURSE I don't mean on first ballot...

well, he doesn't have the counting stats yet to even sniff 1st ballot

I don't disagree with this at all. It's my hope that the writers move away from their overwhelming dependence of counting stats.

More advanced stats like wOBA(currently ranks 29th all time) & wRC+(currently ranks 10th all time) have him up there with the greats right now. And depending if you consider OBP a traditional stat, he's currently 11th all time going back to the start of the live ball era(1920). Even going with WAR, which of course takes defense into consideration, he's currently in the top 150. No, he's not flashy, and won't have the sexy counting stats, but you'd be hard pressed to find, over the course of baseball history, many more(50-75?) efficient, all around great hitters like Votto.

Again, not disagreeing with your assessment of current hall of fame voters, because you're right. Just hoping they "evolve".

Hall of very good

Neither the career nor peak WAR are where they need to be

He may eventually get in based on perception though

Yea that's what I was trying to say, it would obviously be the number 1 reason he got in

Not to start being too much of a homer but arguably Yadi's biggest impacts (calling the game, scouting, handling the pitchers) are near impossible to quantify statistically

And in the crude ways they are quantified our pitchers have consistently had a significantly lower ERA with him behind the plate compared with others

Buster Posey deserves a mention. He's been the best catcher in baseball for almost as long as he's been in the major leagues.

Mauer is the guy who will be interesting to see if he gets in on an early ballot.

His numbers aren't Hall stuff, by most measures-- but he has the added value of spending the best part of his career behind the plate, and having won more batting titles than all other catchers in the history of MLB combined.

He's probably a year 3, year 4 guy, but he'll be a good test for how traditional the voting pool will still be.

He has to finish with better numbers than Lance Berkman

He may want to hit 38 first...

Dude is 27 with 234 home runs, he may not get 500 if he can't stay healthy

Pujols, Cabrera, and Ichiro are the only guaranteed first ballot guys right now, IMO.

Trout, Harper and Kershaw will get there in all likelihood, but if they all decided to quit tomorrow I don't think they're there yet.
