It’s laughable that BYU was on the cusp of making the playoffs.

Just have Vegas rank the top 12 teams and be done with it.

If Vegas ranked the teams, BYU would be no higher than 20th.

They are a horrible side. Texas tech is not really a top 10 team either

I don’t mind auto bids at all when there are 12+ teams in the playoffs.

The issue is the incredibly ridiculous logic the committee uses to rank different teams.

Oregon last season was such a retarded unforced error by them. ND this year too.

What’s wrong with BYU taking a spot if they win today?

What do you mean by this? Oregon went 13-0 and won the Big 10, that seems to warrant an overall 1 seed which they were.

Wrong. BYU has a good defense.

In this NIL era people are going to be shocked at how much money BYU has to spend on promoting their mission on the football field.

If you win a P4 conference you kind of earned it.

Unless you want to make it so Notre Dame and Bama get auto bids.

The goal should be to have the best 12 teams in the playoffs. It’s as simple as that. This is major college football with a ton of money at stake - not little league sports where the goal is equality and fairness and allowing lesser teams a place at the table.

Once again, that is NOT a playoff. That is an invitational.

I mean that's not any worse than a 2 loss G5 team getting in?

Last year.

They cemented Oregon at 3 for reasons and then those reasons flipped at some point and it was absolutely criminal to keep them there and they just kept on keeping them there.

No more laughable than ND who has beat absolutely nobody.

True. They really didn’t beat anyone. They’re still one of the best 12 teams, and one of the top 5 if you think Vegas knows a thing or two about the quality of teams.

In their defense, they didn't lose to a team that lost to Moo State.

Why is IU? Have you seen their easy schedule?

College football as a sport wouldn't survive if it was like nine SEC teams and three Big 10 teams in the playoffs every year.

Letting in a smattering of other conferences has reinvigorated the national interest in the sport

You can really weed out the casual football fans this time of year. Everybody hating on tech hasnt been paying attention. Texas Tech is legit as frick. They spent the most money in the portal out of anybody on their defense and its one of the best in the nation. I dont think they win it all but they can compete with anybody.

Nothing states that the "best" teams make the playoffs or win Championships in ANY sport.

That's a dumb trope that CFB fans have somehow adopted.

It's the most deserving teams based on body of work. It's arguable how you get there, but simply picking "the best" is subjective garbage and the antithesis of why sports exist.

This. Everybody down here in SEC country just wants to put in 9 sec teams plus ohio state and oregon. How fricking boring would the playoff be if we just replayed the same SEC schedule that was just played in the regular season? It's way more interesting having non blue bloods like indiana and tech in there to see different matchups. How fricking awesome was Skattaboo and AZ state almost beating Texas last year? The cream will rise to the top at the end just let the teams that won their games in the regular season have their shot.

You don’t think the current process has a lot of subjectivity? My suggestion is to take as much out of it as possible. Vegas sports books are the best at predicting the quality of teams and outcomes. Their rankings and evaluations of teams are based on their “body of work” and their performance. They don’t pull spreads out of thin air.

The fact that BYU was ranked 11th because of their “body of work” is absolutely laughable and is embarrassingly revealing as to how flawed the process is.
