"Spanos" is apparently Greek for "Culverhouse".

So potentially 4-5 years of getting less money (if drafted lower) with a year of getting no money will be recouped if he goes back into the draft and plays well?

That's a bold assumption that no one will really bother to argue about in 5-6 years if he goes back into the draft.

So Bosa really is a mafia kid. Great Grandfather was Capone's bodyguard/hitman and ran Chicago for 50 yrs. Was apparently part of the St Valentines Day Massacre.

I don't think the Bosa family is caving in these negotiations… just a gut feeling

Like the Chargers original offer of ~50% of the "signing" bonus being paid in the first year?

Or the Chargers being completely unprofessional via the press?

Or the Chargers refusal to pick between the offset and giving the signing bonus upfront like every other team in the same position?

Of course

No it would be the same time, he would have 5 years with the Chargers now. If he goes back in the draft a team that takes him will give him a 4 year deal. Essentially he becomes a FA at the same time. He will lose money but he and his family don't need the money. That is why I'm glad to see him take a stand against the Chargers.
Most players cave because they need the money.

Only fans and citizens id SD will understand your point. Not many players appreciate Spanos's ownership. Marty Schottenheimer was the life of that team during his tenure. It's mostly an income thing to Spanos.

All 1st round deals are 4 years with a 5th year option. That's not something that can be negotiated

He isn't going in the first round a second time, especially if he sits out a year

How else would he be drafted again?

And I'd take that bet

I hate when people say this. My dad or grandfather being a millionaire is not the same as me being a millionaire. It's nice leverage to have, I suppose, but I'm sure just about everybody on earth would rather be independently wealthy. Handouts come with strings.

It sucks--and the Chargers are assholes--but he's got to sign. He'd never be able to recoup that money. He should sign, keep his head down, enjoy the shite out of San Diego, work his butt off, kick arse, and then sign a huge deal with the Broncos or Chiefs in 5 years and shove it up the Chargers' arse twice a season.

I meant how else could he be redrafted if he didn't sit out a year.

Healthy top 5 talent isn't going to drop out of the first because the Chargers decided to be dicks.

Did I indicate there was another way?
A player who hasn't played in a year won't see the first round imo...

Not sure if Canada is an option for him since the Chargers own his rights.

Just weird wording I guess.

Chargers would have his rights for 3 years I believe unless they waived his rights.

Question: are all rookie signing bonuses paid out in the first year? I was under the impression they were paid out over the life of the contract.

You're assuming he falls out of the 1st round entirely. What if he just falls in the 1st round?

Then he has a 4 year contract with a team 5th year option; same as he has with the Chargers just at a lower salary point for 4 years with less signing bonus.

Personally, I'd expect him to fall but not entirely out of the 1st round. Which results in his 2nd contract being in 6 years instead of 5 (or 5 instead of 4 if he isn't that good).

Chargers always want their cake and eat it too.

I guess that's the luxury of living in San Diego, they factor it into negotiations...while Buffalo has to pay a ransom.

Not to say Bosa is wrong about his stance in these negotiations, but I understand now why he comes across a such an arrogant douche. He'll make you an offer you can't refuse

what type of money could be made one year of canadian football vs risking injury going back into next year's nfl draft. that would be retarded imo.
