MLB average in high leverage was .254/.334/.429 (.763).
Trout’s career:
.315/.456/.574 (1.030).

When Trout cones up with numbers like this....
.378 59 hr 177 rbi 171 runs
For a season we can talk. These numbers will never be matched

Nobody can be Babe Ruth because the viewing public is a lot more fractured.
Hell, I don't see as much in terms of documentaries/long form stories on Michael Jordan as I do on Ruth and he is the closest in my lifetime to that sort of universal regard.

Because OPS was viewed the same in the 80s through the mid 90s as it is now, right?

Jordan's life isn't over yet.
Once he dies he'll surpass. Especially since his brand is worth over a billion dollars.

Why was Babe Ruth only a 2 time all-star?
Did the all star game not exist until a certain season of his career?

Not even close.

There was no All-Star game until 1933.

I ask the same thing about why Cy Young never won a Cy Young

Yes. Also, in those days you could only win the MVP once. After that, you were not eligible.

Bonds already shite all over those. In multiple seasons.

Bonds 2001-2004 numbers are still hard to wrap my mind around, but “shite all over” is a bit strong. Babe was throwing up slash lines like .376/.533/.849 and .378/.512/.846 after all.

Barry Bonds never had more than 137 rbis in a season nor did he ever have more than 129 runs in a season but yeah sure.
Babe had the second most RBIs in history and 4th most runs scored. He finished with 50 less runs scored than Barry in 2,000 less plate appearances.

“The next Babe Ruth” requires Trout to reach the Babe’s status as a legend as well as a ballplayer, which will never happen.
The “time machine” question where you drop each player into another’s era to determine the better player has too many variables to account for.
What happens if you take the liquor bottle from the Babe and give him modern training, and then drop him in 2020 and let him take his hacks against some 95+MPH Loogies from the 5th inning onward? Who knows?
Take Trout out of a modern training regimen and put him in the NY spot light, remove all access to scouring reports and video, but give him the chance to see the same gassed pitchers over and over again after they throw 20 straight complete games on 3 days rest.... what happens? Who knows...

When Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 1927, he hit 14% of all home runs in his league that year. For a player to hit 14% of all home runs today, he would have to hit over 300 home runs in one season.
