Dirk has his ring and is a HOF now. he had a great series and flat out wanted it more than the big 3.

the average age of their top 4 playoff scorers is 33.5

they aren't on the right side of 30, ill tell you that much

Well that's the thing, you don't know when it'll hit but when it does, it can sometimes be a rapid thing.

Dirk is showing no signs of aging, though

Kidd/Terry's aging can be offset by French Allah

Marion's can be offset by Butler

They might take a step back, but they'll still be contenders next year... Allah willing there's an NBA season

Chandler, Butler, Barea, and Stevenson are all free.

Dirk and Marion are long-term.

Kidd and Terry are under contract through next year.

Basically, they'll try to re-sign as many of those guys as they can (Tyson and Barea are musts) and try to win it again next year.

After that, Kidd will probably retire and their championship "window" with this group of players will probably be closed.

Dirk will play at a high level for a long time, im not too sure about the other guys.

this season feels like a perfect storm type thing. I just dont see them repeating or being good enough in the future to consider this a rivalry

Dirk doesn't really rely on athletic ability too much. He should be good for a while.

Honestly, this team will compete next year. Just depends on how much the other teams in the West improve.

The Mavs will still win 50 games again and be a top 4 seed in the West, so they certainly have a shot to get back. But right now, I'd probably pick someone else.

I think Heat/Thunder or Heat/Lakers is more likely.
i would say bulls-heat more than these 2, they could possibly face the bulls for years to come.

They will likely face the Bulls a few more times in the future, yes.

If Howard goes somewhere else in the East, that could change things a lot.

Mavs don't give a shite about the Rockets.
I think they've only met once in the playoffs.

They have never really both been good at the same time.

When Houston was winning championships Dallas sucked.
Houston has sucked during Dallas's last 10 years. LINK

Not much rivalry there at all.

The Spurs will always be a rival. If Phoenix ever got good again they would be too.

OKC or Memphis could be a big rivalry in the West too.

the Houston-Dallas rivalry (of the cities themselves) is too natural to be ignored here.

Sorry,
It is just another game like the Hornets until they play each other more often in the playoffs.

Regular season crap doesn't matter when you are on the roll Dallas is on.

It was the same way when Houston was great and Dallas sucked. I don't think their players, coaches or even their fans gave the Mavs any thought at all.

2012 is when I think they'll go after some name free agents.

This coming season they may not be as good but in 2012 I think they'll replace Kidd with a great young point guard and go from there.

Don't think I agree. Only one playoff series and it was a first rounder.

As far as I'm concerned the order of importance placed on a regular season game defines how a big a rivalry really is, and i'd say since 2006 its been:

1. Spurs
2. Heat
3. Every other consistent western playoff team.

i don't think the mavs and heat suddenly is a rivalry now... the key part to an interconference NBA rivalry is rolling through the regular season waiting for the finals because you both know you're gonna get there. kind of like the lakers and celtics

the mavs had a short window with the lakers, celtics, and spurs getting older, the thunder, bulls, knicks, and heat ultimately not ready yet

I don't think they should re-sign Barea. He will earn too much money after his playoff success.

If a player retires in the middle of a contract (Kidd) does that salary still count against the cap?
