I don't care about the price because it's pretty much chump change, but I thought about getting a subscription if it's worth a shite. What do yall think? Anything good/bad about it?

I enjoy it. It was $12 for the year. I wasted 3x that on many other things.

I love how I can basically get independent coverage of all my favorite teams from every sport.

Definitely worth it IMO. Even after being purchased by The NY Times there’s still no reason not to get it. Good content on stros as well

I thought it was for awhile and happily paid for it, but over time I just quit reading it and I'm not sure why, it wasn't a decline in quality that I could perceive anyway. After paying for it for 6 months and not ever opening it I quit. Now I use a firefox addon that blocks the paywall and use it when someone else links it, but still don't read it daily.

For the most part, it’s worth it. At times, there is too much coverage or mention of social issues, and I find their baseball labor coverage is way too slanted toward the players.

But they also have really good stories and coverage and I find their local coverage of teams is way better than what you get from what’s left of the nation’s newspapers. Brody Miller does a better job covering LSU than the other fishwrap writers that cover LSU. Jake Kaplan is pretty good on the Astros best.

You can find great subscription prices to start, but after a few months they slyly increase the price on you. Then you have to contact them and threaten to cancel to get a decent compromise monthly price.

Not worth the hassle.

To me, they don't do any better job of covering LSU, the Saints or the SEC than you can find from the Advocate and ESPN. So really you're paying for the national coverage and columns, and I just don't think it's worth it.

It's also a joke that they claim to have one million subscribers. They probably don't have anywhere near half of that. The two guys who owned it were Silicon Valley types who are into flipping internet startups. They were looking for someone to bail them out for months. I can't believe the NY Times is going to actually pay $550 million. Once the NY Times looks at their actual books, they'll realize it's just not worth it.

I mainly use it for soccer. They have some good college, nfl and nba content too. It’s a little more unfiltered than your traditional coverage.

I can’t stand the over woke-ness but I have been a subscriber since day 1 - when it got too political and woke in summer of 2020 I shut it off - then started it again at the discounted rate during college football season - Nicole Auerbach is completely worthless - though she seems to be feed stuff about CFP expansion much like Heather Dinich - I enjoy reading the College football stuff for the most part and avoid the woke bombs sprinkled throughout - I also enjoy the college football podcasts - Andy Staples is excellent and Brice and Stew typically avoid social issues now and their pod is excellent and for Ohio State people - the landis pod is excellent too… I think it’s content is far better than ESPN - and the pods especially during the season can’t be beat… just my opinion
