How pissed would you be if one of your teams best hitters hurt himself running out a groundball that he had no shot at beating out?
I think it was Adam Eaton, that began this season trying to run out every ground ball with great effort. The veterans on the team sat him down and told him not to. Too many games to waste effort on that when you'll still be out 99% of the time.

eh i was hoping to actually debate this because i think most if not all of those points lend themselves to different views.

Sorry for forgetting where I was. Jimmies and all.

I'm with you. I don't get the no hustle thing with routine ground balls. If you want to pile onto a guy who turns a double into a single because he's staring it down thinking it's a home run, then i can live with that. But you play 162 and the body can only handle so much. Conserve energy where you can. Or let them take amphetamines again. (kidding of course).

I mean 162 games is just too much.

For the record, I think the NBA season is too long as well.

Agree on both, and I'm against an 18 game NFL regular season schedule as well.

I just don't understand why people who don't care for baseball feel the need to talk about it so much. Just pretend it doesn't exist and move on.

The unfortunate reality for baseball is that this is becoming the case.

Baseball needs more American Blacks to add to the excitement of the game, on and off of the field.

The NBA is boring and dead- especially the regular season.

Much more dead nationally than MLB.

ESPN keeps it alive by slamming all this Kobe/Lebron/Sterling crap down everyone's throats (East Coast/NYC bias where people actually care about hoops). They give it more coverage in the OFFSEASON than MLB gets DURING its season.

Outside of the NYC/Boston area and SoCal, people hate the NBA.

Baseball doesnt need the hype- the people that watch it, which are equally dispersed around the country, are going to follow whether it gets bogus hype like the NBA or not.

I'm a baseball fan, but I agree the season is just too long.

Each year I look forward to spring training and opening day. I follow the Nats all summer. But personally, I start to get tired of baseball just when it should be the most exciting (last 1/4 of the season with pennant races). It really hurts that the end of the regular season and the playoffs have to compete w/ football.

And it is a great game to attend live, but a pretty boring game to watch.

Wasn't there a recent thread that debunked this sentiment? You hear this shite all the time and I fear that it will become true as more and more people actually start to believe it, but from what I remember, attendance at games was way up from years prior, TV numbers were solid, and revenue was way up.

If I can find the old thread, I'll link it, but it was pretty surprising even to me, a baseball fan, to see that this whole "baseball is dying" line of thinking isn't really the case. And I can only imagine the tarnished image of the NFL and its concussions lawsuits are pushing parents away from that sport and into sports like baseball. I don't know, I just don't see it dying at all. Plus, it's become popular at an international level, which I think is pretty telling.

I actually tend to agree. I also agree that the games should either be shortened to 7 innings, or the shite head pitchers and prima donna batters need to have the rules enforced against them. Stop adjusting your ball sack, your batting gloves, and going through your 30 second ritual every time you step to the rubber or into the batter's box.

There are many small adjustments that baseball can make to make the game more exciting. Hell, I'm all for moving every wall in the outfield in by 5 to 10 feet. People want home runs? Give it to them. Look at the Little League World Series. A pop up is a home run but people eat that shite up.

At the end of the day, baseball isn't dying, even now, and if it were to rework its TV contracts and make even minor adjustments to the rules (and/or enforcement thereof), it would become even more popular.

Jesus these are all terrible ideas. good thing you're not in any position of power.

just allow steroids and bam, the game is back to being exciting for the low IQ viewers who can't appreciate the game.

Only thing wrong with baseball in America is that there aren't enough Americans, especially African Americans. It's hard to promote a player that doesn't speak English and doesn't make his offseason home in the USA.

If you don't think that enforcing the current time limit rules is a good idea then you're a moron and aren't worth arguing against.
