Randy Moss

Never played a down at FSU.

Marcus Vick

2 career starts.

I know that RP was more of a loss to LSU than TM7 will likely be, but it doesn't mean that he was/is a bigger name.

After reading about Charles Thompson, I think TM7 is now in 2nd...

Charles Thompson clearly.

This thread is a clear example of being a prisoner of the moment.

I clearly stated in the OP that there may be someone else. I didn't say he was. I asked a question. Most would agree that he is right behind Thompson though.

Charles Thompson and Todd Marinovich are #1 and #2 in whatever order.

Marinovich was essentially kicked off the team after getting busted for cocaine...and being suspended previously. He was suspended "indefinitely" and then opted to "leave school" and enter the draft.

The Sporting News named Marinovich the College Freshman of the Year for 1989; he was the only freshman on the All-Pac-10 team and the first freshman quarterback named. Marinovich entered the 1990 season as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

QB position is more important.

Awesome story, bro.

But the question was:

quote:

Is Mathieu's dismissal the biggest name to get kicked out in CFB history?
What you quoted was his further ponderance of the original question.

So:

Randy Moss
Marcus Vick
RP

And to clarify

-Randy Moss was a big damn deal coming out of HS.
-Marcus Vick was once given 38-1 odds to win the Heisman in the preseason. That's a pretty big deal. LINK
-RP was the #1 recruit in the nation, and had just won the MVP of the SECCG in his second career start. . .also providing CoP to Flynn.

D-II has fewer full schollys, but they are the only NCAA level, where sholarships can be divided among players, so a lot of players, who can get academic money, grants, aid, etc...can get a full ride by having to use ony 20%, 40%, 60% etc of one of the athletic schollys.

Incorrect. The FCS level (I-AA) can also split scholarships.

FCS (D-IAA) schools CANNOT split scholarships in football...they are allotted 63 full scholarships. Only in D-II can football scholarships be split... They are alloted 36. This is a football thread. D-IA and D-IAA can split them in some other sports, but never in football.

Not arguing either way, but Jenkins was frosh all-American as a corner at Florida, after starting all year as a true freshman, then all-SEC, etc. He was a stud, and without his off field problems, would have been a 1st round (15-18) pick this year...his problems dropped him to mid-second round. Both are on the dope, but if they get off, Jenkins will have a far more significant pro career than Mathieu.

you're probably the only LSU fan to ever say something like that

and many were projecting Jenkins to go top5 before he got kicked out @ UF......as the #1 CB ahead of MC

You are right...in the combines, Jenkins graded as the best cover corner and had he stayed at Florida and avoided trouble, he would have possibly been around #5 overall. He is tremendous. Chris Long and boys will keep him straight now.

Mathieu was not playing corner in the NFL regardless.

To some extent, but look at TM7 for what he is: a first team preseason All-American in 2 positions in almost every publication for the No.1 team in the country who played for a title last year and he has the second most Heisman votes of any player in CFB going into this season. In terms of "biggest name" I believe he has the most twitter followers of any current CFB player and extremely identifiable by anyone who follows the sport.

That's pretty significant player on and off the field.

I think so. AT least top 2 or 3 at worst. Dude is electric. But a small few are posting like this is some kind of badge to wear. P.I.
