Are you calling Magic a liar?

I'm saying that he's either (a) incorrect or (b) he is construing the phrase "best Laker ever" to include career statistics in a way that I find irrelevant.

How about this: Kobe was never the best player in the league. Not even one year. Not even in 2006, and definitely not the year he won the MVP.

Dispute that.

Would this be the greatest starting 5 produced by any team?

Probably. Celtics could do Havlicek, Bird, Russell, Cousy, Pierce/KG.

Bulls could do Jordan, Pippen, Sloan, Rose, Rodman.

I think those would be the three best teams, with the Lakers being the best overall by a country mile.

I thought you would be better than this. I guess not.

Give me a real argument. Don't tell how shitty smush Parker, Luke Walton, and company were.

1. Thanks for your lofty expectations
2. While I agree that the best team doesn't always have the best player, when your team loses one player and then loses 22 more games the following year, I have a very difficult time seeing how he was making that team better.
3. In other words, think about "best player" in terms of VORP, as there is really no other way to think about "best player".

And then tell me he was better than Tim Duncan.

Fine, that is a fair argument whether you thought Kobe or Duncan was better that year. Neither of us are going to budge on our sides, so no point in going through this.

Between the numbers and from what I saw with my own eyes, I thought he was clearly the best player in the NBA that season.

I think the most amazing thing is that it is 7 years after his best season, and he is still an absolute stud.

He said '05, but he meant '06. Kobe was pretty awful in '05. '06 was his best year, but you could make a strong argument that he wasn't the best player in the league that year. But people like that he scored 35 ppg. That said, I'm okay with just giving him that year because there was no clear cut "best player" that year in my opinion. And yes, his '08 MVP year was a clear theft of CP3.

I assume you meant 05-06.

I think the main point, whether he never was or not, is that if you look at all time NBA top 5 or 10 guys, Kobe probably has less seasons in the league as the clearcut best player.

What does that mean? Who knows, but I think it's a legit claim.

Paul was totally robbed of that MVP for sure. I guess you could blame Steve Nash. Well, really you could blame the voters for being total tards.

Let's not forget Philly, which would have some combination of Wilt, Dr. J, Moses, Allen Iverson, Barkley, and Cunningham
