1. I am NOT a knee jerk reaction guy with these issues. But, he does have a point in this case. Because not ALL claims are valid does not mean all claims are INVALID

2. The NCAA has itself to blame. If you force a kid to use an "out" to get to the playing field...expect an "out" to be used.

I heard some radio guys saying that the loophole also works if you claim home sickness. So if you are flirting with a few schools, take your shot at one far away and then if you don't like it or don't get to play, transfer back home close to mommy and you wont have to sit. Gross.

Any loophole that gives the student athlete more leverage is A ok with me. A coach can up and leave for any reason they deem more beneficial to themselves and their family, a student athlete should be able to do the same.

Normally I'd tend to agree, but this might encourage athletes to come out with false claims of racism.

In 2019, that's the last thing we need to happen even more.

ETA:

This is obviously a TRUE claim of racism, but we all know he wouldn't mind staying at UGA if he was starting. The guy was kicked out of school (and was a good baseball player) and Fields' sister is starting at UGA next year.

Hopefully the NCAA doesn't allow uncorroborated claims of racism.

can see it now, "Coach picked on me and made me run extra laps. I felt singled out. I need to transfer and be eligible immediately."

Well requiring players to sit out for a season is dumb as shite so it evens out in the end

Fields will have to show that it is a culture at the university and on the football team. He is going to have to implicate his team mates and his coaches. The NCAA is not going to set this precedent just because a single individual did something stupid. The NCAA is not going to call out Kirby Smart for allowing such behavior when it did not happen under his control. Fields will have to show that this was a wide spread problem within the football program and/or university. That will take a lot of collaboration that I think doesn’t exist.

Wouldn't be an issue if the NCAA would fix their bullshite transfer rules.

Yep. I wish him well but if and when he gets immediate eligibility, it broke down the door to college football free agency, and this will just be the start of it.

it doens't exist. Anyone with a brain knows he's only transferring for PT because he didn't/isn't beating out fromm.

If he was so incredibly butthurt about that one incident he wouldn't have continued to stay and practice, and even stay on the team through the sugar bowl AFTER he already said he was transferring.

Let's also note the absurdity of this whole "culture" thing being known only because some girl in the student section tweeted about it. Does anyone in their right mind think that if fields was playing and someone in the student section said "put the honky back in!" that fromm would have a case for transfer due to racism? Of course not.

Terrible precedent has been set.

Ehh, when the incident is something that the person accused admits he did and there are multiple witnesses, the precedent really isn't that bad.

I would have reservations if it was just Fields's claim, but the baseball player admitted it and the actual incident pretty definitely happened.

Fields might be using it to his advantage, but he isn't making the incident up. It would be more troubling as precedent if we weren't sure the incident happened, IMO. You'd hope most players won't have an incident like that to use to their advantage.

A single student called him a mean name and was then kicked off of campus

That isnt an insitution harboring fear and racism.

If Eason had to sit out a year for transferring closer to home, then Fields needs to as well.

He isn’t leaving because of racism - he’s leaving because he couldn’t beat out Fromm and doesn’t want to spend a year or two developing behind him.

And if the rule is going to stay in place, a free transfer should not be granted because someone was mean to you. Especially when the university kicked the meanie out

It won't be granted because "someone was mean" and it also doesn't need to be because "an insitution harboring fear and racism."

Either way, the NCAA can eat a dick with their stupid transfer rules. He shouldn't even be required to request eligibility.
