Fastest to 1,800 strikeouts in MLB history.

It dont even seem like he’s pitched that long… with years of injuries

What do we do with Saberhagen & Johan, Paul?

Led the league in ERA once. That's it.
He would have the fewest wins and innings pitched for a HoF starter.

Less than 100 career wins

Its an interesting stat to look at with how much less batters care about strikeouts now. Its kind of like looking at fastest to however many passing yards in football now, when the league has been so much more pass heavy lately.

Seems like he hasn't sustained success. Hes hardly pitched in 4 years

His third year in Texas, and he's pitched less than 170 innings combined.

Yeah, but his career ERA is 2.55 and his ERA+ is 155, which are crazy good numbers for a guy who has pitched 1500 innings. His peripheral numbers (like BB:SO) are insanely goo too.
I doubt he gets in - a late start, Covid and injuries doomed him - but he has an interesting resume that could get even more interesting if he somehow manages to finish strong, say three more solid seasons.
I guess Koufax would be your template, but Koufax had "star power" that he clearly lacks.

Not many players are locks for the baseball HOF.

If he retired today he does not get into the hall. Unless he has a Randy Johnson like late 30s career, he will not get into it.

Great player, just not HOF worthy. Same like Lincecum. 4-5 years of elite level of play isn't enough.

He isn't a lock but he is good enough. 'Good enough' doesn't always win out, though.

I think Koufax had already retired at a younger age than de Grom is now, with better numbers.
ETA. Koufax pitched his last game at age 30.

DeGrom has more WAR than Koufax despite throwing 800 less innings
Kinda the crux of this thread. DeGrom is one of the GOATs when you take his condensed stretch & compare it to others.

what?
He led the league in ERA or FIP once. Led k/9 once. Led K's once.
Koufax led the league in k/9 6 times, WHIP four times, FIP six times, k's four times, ERA five times, and k/bb three times
All in a 6 year period. Degrom doesn't deserve to sniff his yamaka

Probably not because the HOF values counting stats for about 20 years. But I think he deserves it, he’s been one of the better pitchers in the league since his debut in 2014. He had around a 5 year stretch where he was the best pitcher in MLB- that’s enough for me personally.
He went to college and players that do so miss out on a couple of pro years (and therefore counting stats) unfortunately.

No. He's nowhere close to a lock.
At this point I'd bet on him not making it in... but there's still time for a late career surge.
