Is it time to move the 3 point line back?

We're getting to the point where the game is just one big 3 point shooting contest.

Teams are averaging 35 3 pointers a game. In 1990 they attempted 7.

The 3 is exciting but I think we've reached an inflection point.

I miss big men with skills around the basket. Post ups, footwork, etc. Now every big has to be a "stretch."

What would happen if the line was moved back a few feet out of the range of the average shooters and only the elite shot 3s?

I guess in time, they'd adjust but there has to be a better way.

Where would you push it back on the sidelines?

No. Can’t move them back any further in the corners.

They have more skill now.

Large goofy arse ogres at center was never fun. Idk why people think they were.

You'd have to increase the size of the court which would make more space for offenses. Might be entertaining and see the mid range jumper make a come back due to the space.

Widen the court then. Or just get rid of the 3PL and go back to when a bucket was 2 points regardless of where the shot was took.

The court should expand. Id rather watch these guys spread out with a lot of 1 on 1s then the massive pileup like we see inside the paint now.

You would extend it to the point that there was no corner 3.

I think expanding the court may make defense even more impossible.

Ok, here's a not well thought out idea. What if the 3 was only an option in the last 5 minutes of each quarter?

This is a fricking stupid retort.

There arent any ACTUAL basketball fans that think the current version of basketball is MORE enjoyable to watch. And if you argue with that you are completely removed from the basketball fan community.

Its an actual problem.

Spread offenses can be argued to be more enjoyable.

The more apt comparison is baseball with the "only strikeouts and homeruns with no small ball and steals" movement. Its way less enjoyable to watch.

I thought the math guys have confirmed around the basket scoring and FTs are still the most efficient means of scoring.

The mid range game is what shouldn’t even be considered.

I remember the 1990s when everyone bitched because the game was a clusterfrick down low.

Here is a novel idea, no three point line on the sidelines. Crazy, I know. Just because there is a line doesn't mean it needs to be accessible everywhere on the court.

Just make it the damn half for line and be done with it.

Make it worth 2.5 points instead of 3.
