Eliminate the 3 point line.

No they wouldn’t. A mediocre traditional big who can’t catch a pass is not in any way what Dallas needed.

Dallas was two pieces from championship level. A wing to rotate with Reggie and DFS, and a competent big in Powell’s place.

If not for the incompetence of the front office in free agency and the draft for years, Dallas would have won it this year. Replace Josh Green with Desmond Bane and that one very realistic move possibly puts them in Finals.

That 2020 draft is a disaster. Not one of those 3 guys are good. Two were out of the league immediately. There are like 10 guys between picks 18 and 36 that are a million times better than any of the 3 guys they picked.

Imagine this team that just made the west finals with 6 playable guys, and add Tillman and Bane from Memphis. Both guys could’ve and should’ve been drafted by Dallas.

Luka uses the mid range all the time. So does KD.

People who bitch about analytics don’t understand that it’s not a bad shot for guys who can make it efficiently. A lot of the best players still dominate from mid range.

I’m fascinated by people who complain about something like analytics. It feels like people who are really just bothered by intelligence in general.

These idiots don’t understand that analytics could be something as simple as knowing a guy should only hit against lefties. Ray Lewis watching film knowing what play is coming based on how the rb lined up.

It’s like when that Chargers coach had a decision backfire and everyone was quick to make fun of analytics even though analytics disagreed with that coach’s decision. A lot of people just hate shite they don’t understand.

When is the last time you saw a Kevin McHale pump fake, drop step, spin and fake to make a bucket?

Mavs have two guys who do that shite every game. They just aren’t bigs. Jalen Brunson is 6’1 and might have the best post footwork in the league. Luka constantly backs dudes down and hits them with fakes and spins.

I remember during steph’s God mode runs he was making something like 70% from the corner. They showed statistically steph shooting corner 3’s produce more points per shot than Lebron dunking it.
Well of course. If you exceed 66.67% on 3 point shots, there literally is zero advantage to ever shooting a 2.

Maybe so, but Brandon Ingram did a great job of showing that, when done right, the mid-range can still be an effective shot in this league.

People hate the over-correction to where tape/scouting doesn't matter anymore, even though stats don't show the full picture. Analytics was designed to remove the old biases, but just added new ones backed up by computer models, which are as accurate as a coin flip. It also doesn't consider the psychological element of sports. How did going for every 4th down turn out for Kiffin? The dumbest measurement, without a doubt, is hand size. Burrow's hands are like half as big as Tua despite being 3-4 inches taller, I know who I would sign of the two. I know this whole post is off topic for the thread, but you asked why some dislike analytics. I love them, but I also recognize their weakness. Fantasy has turned the average fan into an even dumber mouthbreather than before.

If you get the ball n rhythm, take the two. Otherwise get to the goal or take the three

The correct answer is more complicated.

Either you make the court bigger and move the 3pt line back significantly further, or you change the points awarded for each made basket.

I.e. field goals are worth 3 points and anything behind the arc is worth 4, or 4 for FGs and 5 deep balls.

That inherently makes a behind the arc shot less valuable.

4 and 5 would be good because you could make FTs worth 2 and keep that relationship with FGs that you already have.

But they also need to figure out how to get the James Harden free throw mongers under control.
