USC?

USC is a very recognizable brand nationally, but in terms of viewership, the numbers they bring are closer to Michigan State and Wisconsin than they are to Penn State, Michigan, or Ohio State.

The SEC is not going to add schools until schools can reasonably afford to leave the ACC GOR. FSU doesn't have $500 million laying around right now.

Big10 eastern expansion( if that's even a thing) wont happen either.

We need zero additional teams. We need to shed Vandy and Mizzou actually.

I think we about to see the Big 10 stacking teams to try and counter SEC. College Football gonna be AFC vs NFC before long

They’re big brands in football that move the needle nationally and it keeps the B1G from getting media markets in SEC territory. Eventually its going to come down to SEC vs B1G as the top 2 conferences with everyone else left in the dust.

Why Clemson over a school like North Carolina?
Because football is the big money sport and whats driving realignment. Clemson is a top tier football addition, UNC is not.

UNC would be great to add if a conference wanted to strengthen their basketball

Did you miss the Leinart and Bush era? It wasn’t that long ago

ESPN AND Fox are both owned by Disney, who are about to eat shite financially. CBS has nothing. NBC has nothing. Apple’s offer requires subscribers (which are a bad deal). Amazon and Google are likely too raw to get in.

Which means whatever deals are in place are locked in.

If SEC contracts allow expansion, great, get them in. If not, what’s the point of an ACC blowup.

Wrong. Fox TV Network is still part of Fox Corp and is not affiliated in any way with Disney.

Years from now we’ll look back and see what a disaster all this expansion was. Just a big money grab. The SEC had a great thing going and ruined it.

FSU is and Clemson has developed into national brands in the sense that those games are watched nationally. That’s why adding them to a conference that already has their footprint covered makes sense.

No, I remember it well. But 2 decades is a long time at the rate things have changed in CFB. Look at how different the sport is now than it was in 2005.

If USC gets to that level again, then they will be great for viewership. Any program in contention will draw viewers. Even TCU last year got 2 Big Noon and 1 ABC Saturday Night broadcast.

Look at some of the games NBC has agreed to broadcast this year like Maryland-Charlotte and Syracuse-Purdue. USC and UCLA aren’t in the conference yet, but CBS isn’t all in either until next year. Those networks will want more/better choices.

They don’t really expand territory and viewership all that much, given that there are already teams in both states which may not drastically improve TV deals. In the same sense, I think the NC and Virginia schools could be potentially more lucrative additions to the conference.

Expanding TV markets was the goal of expansion in the early 2010's. With streaming, it isn't as relevant anymore. Now it is all about the big brands and creating top tier matchups.

College football being king as far as money goes, you're going to want Clemson and FSU over VA and UNC or anyone else in the ACC (not that you wouldn't want a few of the others in addition).

The SEC made a major mistake giving all of their TV rights to just one outlet.

The B1G is going to widen the revenue gap by spinning off packages of games.

With streaming outlets like Amazon paying big bucks, the SEC should have held off awarding the CBS package or spun off a streaming only package.

Obviously you don’t. It was must-see TV then no matter whom they played. Hollywood was all about them in a way that could only happen in L.A.

I actually see your point. It’s just that they aren’t a draw outside of the 3 other big teams unless they are playing one of those 3 most people don’t care. I for sure believe that.

I’m not some state fan either, I just live in Michigan and prefer them x1000 over U of M. That being said they are one of the programs that every now and then has a shot at being good but I doubt they could ever sniff a title in football.
