re: Is Duke/UNC the best rivalry in American Sports?

They were definitely not big rivals in the Bucky Waters era, which is when NC State won their title with David Thompson. And the Bill Foster era was too short, but they had some big rivalry games during Vic Bubas's run. Of course Bubas was an NC State man, as Everett Case's best assistant, but there were some great rivalry games between Duke and UNC, especially when the New York kids got into fights.

What a great team that was....
And of course UNC made the Finals in '81 and 82....... The ACC was the best conference by FAR in the 80,s some awesome games between UNC/Duke.. Maryaland and Both UNC/Duke. Nc st. seemed to always play a spoiler role... And the UVA teams of the Sampson ERA....

The Big East was at least as good if not better. Both conferences had one legit championship and one Cinderella championship. Georgetown, Villanova, Syracuse and Seton Hall all made championship appearances. Georgetown made 3. And then there was 1985 when they had 3 in the Final Four.

Green Bay-Chicago?
I'm not saying it's the best but you're either stupid or ignorant if you think it being mentioned is laughable

Why isn't dickieV calling game?

Duke didn't make the Finals in 77
It was 78 at the Arena/Checker Dome in St Louis. They used Indiana's floor for the Final Four. The Final four was:
Kentucky
Duke
Arkansas
Notre Dame
Arkansas won the 3rd place game vs Notre Dame.

He's biased toward great coaches and programs.
I guess we all forget he had names for Smith, Knight, he sucked off the Big East for the entire 80's. He rode Pitino like a horse until 2 years ago.

Ok, Green Bay-Chicago is the best. I forgot that GB-Chi games are two dates on the calendar that are marked every year. I remember staying up past bedtime with the TV on mute for all those Rex Grossman/Brett Farve epics. My dad would come in and yell at me "Turn that shite off, it's bedtime, son!"
Then I'd turn to him and say "Dad, it's Bears/Packers, to say it's not one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports would be stupid or ignorant"
Then he would always say, "You're right, son....I was stupid and ignorant. Watch Bears/Packers, and then come have a whiskey with me after the game is over."

The only pro rivalry that comes close to college is Red Sox/Yankees.
Posted on 3/7/15 at 9:46 pm to Korin
it would be an even better rivalry if Roy Williams wasnt such an inept coah

I am choosing to believe that is a true story because it makes me smile.

In the 70's to around 1995 nobody cared about Red Sox Yankees really.
The Dodgers Yankees and Orioles Yankees were the bigger rivalry.
The Cubs Cardinals is as big as that one is IMO.
