Out of everythign I posted, that's the only thing you address.
Yes, because it shows a severe lack of baseball knowledge. But, I’ll indulge you.
I won’t even address batting average, it’s stupid. Harper & Bryant’s career OBP/SLG/OPS:
Harper: .384/.512/.897
Bryant: .387/.521/.908
There’s not exactly any eye popping difference there.

RBI's are the worst way to judge any player
Batting average can be bad as well

Yes so many sides that you used RBI and average multiple times and then in the end use OBP/OPS in regards to Bryant where there is minimal difference. But hey congratulations, Pujols is one of the best still because he is an RBI machine

Not at all, batting average just isn’t a good gauge of a hitter. Bonds-.298 career/A-Rod-.295 career. In 2015 Dee Gordon led the NL in BA, was he he even close to being the best hitter? Hell no. Maybe not stupid, but it should be severely de-emphasized.

More like-“ You state stats that are more dependent on others than the person being evaluated. RBIs are stupid”.

I used to see people comparing Harper to Babe Ruth, which was overrating him a bit, but I don’t think he is an overrated player... especially just because of one down season.
Posted on 7/4/18 at 1:41 pm to Drewbie
You used the fact that he’s never hit some idiotic made up 100 RBI threshold in a year in which he hit 42 HR and hit at an incredibly elite level with RISP as if it’s somehow a knock on him. Additionally, you’ve now used BA and RBI in a single argument, so I’ll just bow out of this convo.

quote:Wrong. I said he's never hit some idiotic made up 100 RBI threshold ever. The point is moreso that even with his 2015 season, his career numbers are simply all-star level. The averages speak louder than the peak, but all of his fans want to keep living in 2015 as if he's been producing at that level consistently. As I pointed out earlier, there are people with significantly less "PAY THIS MAN ANYTHING HE WANTS!" narratives that are doing just as much, if not more, than him at the plate. I've never said he wasn't a good player. Quite the opposite. I said if you say he ISN'T, you're an idiot. But the people hailing him as some great gift to the sport of baseball that's worth any contract he wants need to calm the hell down.

Harper has NEVER had a 100 RBI season

quote:yea. That career 384 OBP, 220 ISO, 380 wOBA, and 140 wRC+ with 28.7 WAR in 7 seasons, some of which were shortened due to injury, is just merely "good"
his career numbers are simply all-star level.

If someone wants to pay 500 million for that, more power to them.
Posted on 7/4/18 at 2:01 pm to Drewbie
No one is giving him 500 million
He will probably get 350 though

Crazy how much is BA fluctuates. It's probably closer to .250-.260

Kris Bryant would get some serious cash if he hit free agency at the beginning of his prime, like Harper is about to.

If WAR is $9 mill per and he averages 4 per year like he has and that contract is for 10 years $350 mil would be about right.
If he really has only averaged 4 WAR/year over his first 7 he probably isn't doing that over the next 10 though.
Baseball players always get paid on a lag though if they last long enough (see Pujols, Albert - the Angels are making up his being a bargain for StL).)

Harper won't be 32 going into FA

According to one radio show up here in DC....BA is an overrated stat because he has 20+ HRs
They would’ve loved Adam Dunn.

It is the same radio host(s) that said just last week that the NL East is weak and the Nats will prob. still win the division. Which is still possible because there is still half the season to go. However, I find it funny they say that because the Nats currently have a losing record against the division. 4-6 against the Braves, 4-6 against the Phillies, and 2-4 against the Mets.
