It was true 10 years ago when Auburn got jobbed. Back then we needed the SEC to do well so the conference's reputation would benefit us.
Now there are 4 teams instead of 2 so we don't need it as much. We're also well into diminishing returns as far as the SEC boosting its reputation. We had a team in the BCSCG every year from 2006-13.

Generally the winning teams are the most hated, so yes.

I hate Saban more than I hate Alabama. He is the luckiest man on Earth and I don't understand how everything always goes his way.
His national championships:
2003: Computers pick LSU over USC
2009: Colt McCoy injured 2 minutes into the game
2011: Team gets a mulligan vs. LSU after losing to them at home
2012: Notre Dame has a fluke unbeaten season
I think the kick-six was the only bad thing that has happened to him. Only Nick Saban could parlay the Miami Dolphins fiasco into a situation where literally becomes the best college football coach since Bear Bryant.

I was at the bar yesterday and this one dude that always wears Bama gear had no idea Lane Kiffin was their OC, everyone let him have it! We probably ripped on him for an hour straight.

Pretty much no one outside of the Big Ten hates Michigan St. Sparty is downright beloved. Sorry, the fact Ohio St and Michigan hate MSU is viewed as a relative positive.
and right now, FSU is approaching new levels of loathing. During the FSU shootings, the NY Times mentioned how corrupt their football team is in the news story. Think about how detested you have to be for someone from NYC about your football team. Yankees barely recognize the existence of college football, but they stopped down a tragic news story to remind us that we all hate the football team.
