Is a Big 12/Pac 12 merger the next major move in conference realignment?

This seems pretty obvious right? It already almost happened in 2010 and this seems like the most logical move once shite hits the fan again
I don't know if we will see more than 16 teams in a conference so it will be interesting to see what the conference would look like

Why don't all the P5 merge together, ditch the NCAA, and pay the players?
Posted on 2/24/18 at 12:14 pm to chalmetteowl
Would be cool with that
Posted on 2/24/18 at 12:15 pm to chalmetteowl
that could work and just do regions instead of conferences

Looks like certain agents are following your model, but in reverse order.

Big Ten will block this by inviting Kansas and Oklahoma. More money for them. Better travel for all sports. Games played at reasonable Eastern and Central times means more exposure. That's a real thing because people often forget about the PAC because the games are so late.
SEC may also be a player in this and could get Oklahoma and another one as well. I just get the feeling the SEC is fine with where they are at.
The rest of the 12 could peel off and go but at that point is it worth the PACs time. As far as Texas goes, they could pull off being a football independent with an ACC membership ala Notre Dame.
The Big 12 and PAC merging seems simple and logical but you have to realize that the schools will be looking at what is best for them first. The conferences also can't just add schools to add schools, there needs to be value with each add otherwise you get into a diminishing returns situation.

Logistics would be hard. The bigoted Cal and Stanford administrations have consistently and openly stated that they will veto any religiously affiliated school.
That leaves West Virginia (too far away), Kansas (doormat in football), K State (will revert to historic suckage without Snyder), Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech.
Texas plays the "what's mine is mine, what's yours is ours" game with the Longhorn Network, and the PAC-12 won't and shouldn't put up with that nonsense.
The two Oklahoma schools are a good addition, but the sand aggies aren't worth taking without their big brother.

OU is tied to Okie st

How many of teams to you think Pac-12 would be willing to take? Texas & OU are given, but how long are their coattails?
Two additional schools would put them at 16, which two make the cut?

okie state and then one of the three little brother schools from texas. probably tech

pac12 was ready to take OU and Tejas, but both are tied to deadbeats(okie st and taco tech).
A McDonalds university degree(one they give fry cooks), has more value than a diploma from either of those 2.
Had OU or Tejas been able to shed them, both would already be in Pac12.

Okie state wins 10 games a year in football
Texas tech is a joke though.

My wife and several people at my company graduated okie state. It's a good school.

As an OU fan, OU is in a great position to win the conference most years and make the Playoff. I want no part of changing conferences.
Posted on 2/24/18 at 12:59 pm to Ostrich
but i think texas wants out and if texas leaves, then what benefit does staying in the big 12 give OU?
Posted on 2/24/18 at 1:01 pm to WestCoastAg
If Texas got their shite together, they'd be right there with OU dominating the conference. I don't see why they'd want out
