IOWA CITY, Iowa-- One of the most interesting storylines all across the college football landscape has likely come to an end. Rumors began swirling on Sunday afternoon that Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz would step down following the 2023 season. On Monday, multiple sources reached out to HawkeyeInsider and confirmed that Brian Ferentz is not expected to return for the 2024 season.

The Hawkeyes have had among the worst offenses in the country for the past three seasons. Entering this season, Brian Ferentz's contract was revised. He took a $50,000 pay cut and it was mandated by Iowa's administration that the Hawkeyes score at least 25 points per game (including a bowl game) -- by any means, including defense and special teams -- during the 2023 season. If that happened, Ferentz would return to his rollover two-year contract.

This is no fun.

Everyone wants to "keep doing the Math" to see how the 25 Point Average clause would pencil out as the weeks wound down.

Those epic moments of him needing to score some insane odd number of points in his last games were just robbed from us.

Coward.

The best part is he gets to finish the year. So Iowa fans have to suffer for another 4 games

They can frame it however they wish because he wasn’t coming back next year, and it wasn’t going to be his or his father’s decision.

Yeah, they still have a very realistic shot at winning the Big 10 West. They're currently tied for 1st in the division. One of the teams they're tied with is Nebraska who they're playing later in the season. The other is Minnesota who they lost to but Minnesota has to play Ohio State while Iowa has Northwestern, Rutgers, Illinois, and Nebraska to close out the season. They still have a lot to play for so why not fire Ferentz now?

Wonder if Kirk will be bitter at the administration for forcing out his obviously incompetent son.

Because Kirk isn’t firing his son, and the administration can’t do it until the end of the season when the 25 PPG clause is official.

At least Arkansas sent the dogshit OC packing mid-season. This is what happens when your HC has no fear of getting fired.

They need to fire Kirk too.

Try and lure Leipold with a huge bag.

Why not make this immediate?

They can’t get any worse.

They're more likely to score 25 points total the rest of the way than average over 25 pts per game.

Watch the Hawkeyes suddenly score 50 a game in their next 4 games to save his arse.

"You can't fire me because I quit" in full effect.

Goodbye, sweet prince. We will miss the 127 total yards output games and 12 yard halves. We will also miss the automatic cover on the under.

While none of us are time travelers, we appreciate your stint at Iowa taking us back to a time where the forward pass was non-existent. We owe you a debt of gratitude.

I mean, I guess they could be, but they did straight up let Brian steal from the university for 6 years. You'd have to be pretty unreasonable to be mad at the course of conduct. Also, Brian was accused of being racist and didn't get any punishments when their strength and conditioning coach got fired. Iowa's been pretty damn good to him and his family.
