Suddenly? They hired the best recruiter in CFB history at the best program in CFB history. What exactly did you expect to happen at Alabama? Some of y'all show your age on this site with comments like this- The results under Shula were the outlier in the program's history, not the norm. Bama has at least 1 national title in the 1920's, 30's, 40's, 60's, 70's, 90, 00's, and '10's. Nothing sudden about that Juggernaut

The damning part is every fan base at least admits they cheat - whether it leads to on field success or not.

As an Arizona fan, I legit hope we're not paying players.

Not because I mind paying players, but because we've had one recruiting class in the last 10 years higher than #40 nationally. If we're paying, we're getting an awful return kn investment.

Now, in basketball, we get talent.

What's a super felon? Is that like a person with a bunch of felonies? Or just one big time felony?

eh, I think it's the school as much or more than the coach.

He didn't win a B1G championship at MSU.

It's the Trump economy. Even felons gets no interest house loans. Credit and down payments no longer matter - no Doc Loans are back in style.

Churches have been laundries for paying players for years.

Yes, but usually it’s a small neighborhood or rural church with a “preacher” that’s also an advisor to a recruit. The church gets a great deal on a new roof or van.

A large mega church getting involved is a whole other level of money laundering and shenanigans.

I couldn't care one bit about this. It would be funny if Clemson gets hammered but everyone decent does something against the rules.

I am in no way insinuating that Alabama doesn’t cheat. Hell they might be the worst, I really don’t know. And I’m not saying Clemson DOES cheat. I don’t know and honestly don’t care if it isn’t TOO bad.

But I don’t think Alabama in 2008 is all that comparable.

Alabama, king of CFB in the south, was RIPE for a resurgence when they hired the greatest CFB coach of all time coming back from the NFL and off a NC at LSU. It was genuinely a where were you moment when Saban accepted the job and landed in Tuscaloosa.

2nd, he started recruiting homegrown kids who wanted to be the first kids to put Alabama back on the map. Their top recruits in 2008 were..

1. Julio - Foley, Alabama
2. Tyler Love - Birmingham, Alabama
3. BJ Scott - Mobile, Alabama
4. Jarell Harris - Gadsden, Alabama
5. Mark Barron - Mobile, Alabama
6. Courtney Upshaw - Eufaula, Alabama
7. Ingram(Michigan)
8. Marcell Dareus - Birmingham, Alabama

And a whole host of other starters and contributors from the state. It didn’t start as some nationwide player auction for the Tide. They went undefeated in the SEC in 2008 and went toe to toe with Tebow and blew up as THE hottest team/coach combo to be a part of.

Again, Alabama might have kickstarted the run passing out thousands and might still be doing it. But there’s definitely room for it to have been a relatively organic process.
