We can’t get into the specifics, for now. But we’re getting very credible indications that Cousins is seriously considering moving his family to Atlanta. Which would mean, obviously, that he’d be signing with the Falcons.

The Falcons have always been the top alternative to the Vikings for Cousins, who becomes an unrestricted free agent next Wednesday. And for good reason. His wife, Julie, grew up in nearby Alpharetta, Georgia. Her parents still live there.

The Vikings have, by all appearances, decided they want to keep Cousins, but only at their price. They seem to think he won’t get a better offer elsewhere. If he does, they seem to be content to let him go.

The attraction for Cousins, beyond the contract, would be a plethora of great skill-position players — and the fact that the NFC South is currently weaker than the NFC North.

The Vikings still have six days of exclusive negotiating rights with Cousins. If they want to keep him, they could make an offer he won’t refuse.

Hes getting some pushback, so he just tweeted this

@ProFootballTalk

To the folks who try to dismiss our reports by saying we have no sources or whatever, you realize we had like 50 guests on our show last week from Indy, right? You realize pretty much everyone in the league reads PFT, right? You realize I've been doing this 23 years, right???

Makes sense. His wife was born and raised in Alpharetta,15 miles north of downtown Atlanta and she's a UGA alum. Sounds like she's ready to go home.

And Cousins is the absolute best fit for the Falcons and their new offense. Plus Blank wants to win now and Cousins will do that.

Dude is coming off of a major injury late in his career.

Fair.

But he's better than Justin fricking Fields.

And prior to the injury, he was healthy as a horse.

Win what? The Vikings have won a grand total of one playoff game with him there. They did have a 13-4 team in 2022, but that was an absurdly misleading record as the team had a negative point differential, and those chickens came home to roost when they lost at home to the Giants in the first round of the playoffs.

He's a good QB, but like most of them, he isn't good enough to carry an offense when he's eating up a huge chunk of the salary cap. If you want to win anything significant in the NFL, you either have to be elite or good AND cheap at QB. Cousins is neither. He is good and expensive.

I would put it at very low, unless he can't recover from the Achilles. Aside from that, it's very low and is very risk averse.

Dude can play.

B/c his defense has been arse. They had a 3 score lead against NY a couple of years ago and choked it away. How is that on Cousins?

You're wanting to win a SB. That ain't happening.

If you want to win now, win the division, and not be risk-adverse, Cousins is your play.

If you want to do high risk, get Fields or a rookie. And we already saw your proposal a few nights ago and it's WAY TOO MUCH to give up.

Blank wants to win now. Cousins accomplishes that.

His contract makes it harder to build the rest of the roster. If you pay a QB like that, part of the deal is accepting that you won't be good in a lot of other places. The QB needs to be good enough to carry a team despite that. Since the rookie wage scale was introduced, only Mahomes has proven he can do it.

Fontenot is not a good enough drafter to put a championship caliber roster around a highly paid, non-elite QB.

I want to build a legitimate championship contender, not a roster who wins 10 games and gets killed in the first or second round of the playoffs.

I think the difference between how you and me look at this is I don't see much of a difference between the 7-10 garbage of the last 3 years and a 10-7 division winner who loses by multiple scores in the first round of the playoffs. The 7-10 team just has better draft position.

Also, the Falcons don't have anything remotely close to Justin Jefferson, or even Jordan Addison for that matter.
