@McMurphyESPN: Independence Bowl is no longer. The new bowl name is AdvoCare V100 Bowl

In an effort to rebrand the Bowl, the leaders of AdvoCare and the Independence Bowl Foundation staff have created four points as part of a vision to enhance the growth and success of the Bowl going forward:

1. Adhere to a Top 10 bowl standard
2. Make the AdvoCare V100™ Bowl a desired bowl destination
3. Involve the military and thank them
4. Shreveport-Bossier City has one of only 35 bowls in the world, and it is a direct reflection of the community

AdvoCare plans to achieve the four points by enhancing the AdvoCare V100™ Bowl’s matchup in the upcoming negotiations. The current selection agreements, which expire after the 2013 season, have the Bowl slated to pick ninth after the BCS in the SEC and sixth after the BCS in the ACC.

If they accomplish this and get to 4.8, it would slot in as the 3rd highest non-BCS payout behind the Cotton and Gator Bowls.

Yeah bowl games aren't real popular in Afghanistan and other places around the world.

If they want to be smart about this, they'd try to arrange an SEC/PAC12 selection

frick Advocare

Every time I see a bowl that is nothing but a sponsor name its credibility drops for me. This includes the Peach Bowl turning into the Chik-fil-a Bowl.

Could not agree more - I understand these new fly-by-night bowls in the current "Everyone can go to a bowl!" era have no history to speak of, but there needs to be a rule in place preventing sponsors from naming the bowls after themselves. It's the Peach Bowl, and always will be, regardless of what they call it.

Does not compute.

Also, its sad to see the bowl (and its been around a long time and outlasted several other bowls so i dont get the annual hate) lose its name. One of the dinosaurs going away i guess

unless they put a dome on that stadium. Shreveport will never be a desired destination in late december. I was there for the ulm game and it was too dang cold.
