Or better yet, just create a semi-pro league these players can play in. Have to be over 18, but under 25. Let college football go back to being college football.

I've been saying this for years, but it won't sell without the dedication and passion of fans tied to a college. Our media overlords realize this and created one via college football.

Look at USFL as well as NBA and MLB minor league attendance and viewership compared college football, basketball, and baseball especially the playoffs. Theoretically, superior products with inferior following.

It's not about the talent on the field its about some form of established rapport to the teams playing and a captive audience. How else do you sell out NFL stadiums and generate 10 MM viewers for the Army/navy game!

They're not going back

But I never understood why it went from 4 to 12 right away
They should have started with 8 first - makes way more sense

They knew 8 would work perfectly and there wouldn’t be a lot of public frustration with it.

Or let the top 4 seeds choose if they want to have a bye week

8 teams. 4 P4 conference champs and 4 at large. Seeding done by computer - AI would seed much better than the committee

Again that doesn’t work in a 12-team bracket.

It’s not the bye, per se, it’s a whole month off. If you had the teams with a bye play on 14 days rest, it’d be a lot different than 26+ days rest.

That said, 16 teams would also solve it.

Go back to 8. Rarely is there more than 8 teams deserving. Miami included in that even with there win over Ohio ST

Lower ranked seeds below 8 have won a ton the last two years so this makes no sense.

Move the bowl games to the beginning of the year. They will mean more and not have empty stands and provides a system to keep them around.

Conf champ games need to go away and playoffs start after a one week bye for finals. Top best 16 teams. No freebies, no P4/fcs teams. Top 16 full stop. If a conference gets left out then get better teams

I am in favor of expansion to a 16 team playoff because I want a Four Loss Bama team in the Playoffs, as well as a Three Loss Notre Dame team.

Thanks for that Math 001 lesson.
No shite.

It can easily be done with 12.
Conference champ was dec 6
Play the 1st round Dec 13. (Spare me the time to get the stadium ready BS; NFL does this. Or play this round at the bowls if necessary and next round at campus)
Play the 2nd round Dec 20 (1 week bye for top 4)
Play semis NYE/NYD (11-12 day "mini-bye" for all remaining teams)
Play finals Jan 12 (11-12 day "mini-bye" for the finals.

All teams get fair # of days off. Bowls still get to play NYE/NYD games and throughout Dec/Jan. Championship remains on a Monday like ABC wants. All problems are solved. This is way too simple
