Was listening to Lebatard yesterday. He said that even in the days of dominant teams, there was the chance that they could lose.

There were teams that gave the dominant teams fits. It creates drama and gets people to tune in. Opposing teams had a chance.

His assertion was that a GS sweep would signify a no-drama era for the NBA. . .and that the big loser would be the NBA. People would stop watching season games, when the outcome of the season is undeniable, a GS sweep of the playoffs and finals.

I think it is going to happen, and I think it will have a negative effect. How bad? I dunno.

What say the board?

I say that Kevin Durant joining a championship-level team, that had already won one and broke a single-season wins record, is a bitch move.

Why does everything think the Warriors will sweep?

Everyone thought they would destroy everyone last year and they were one game away from losing the WCF 4-1 then lost the finals after being up 3-1.

This Golden State team is not invincible.

NBA playoff ratings are up from last year.

quote:

The quality of NBA postseason games may not the best this year, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t watching. Viewership for the 2017 NBA Playoffs on ESPN and ABC is up five percent from last year. So far, the average viewership this season is at 4.376 million as compared to 4.176 million.

TNT’s ratings has also seen an uptick thanks to the playoffs and its numbers have won primetime in cable.

I blame the Celtics, Lebron, and Durant for this (in that order). All three bitches.

I would say he underestimates or doesn't understand foreign markets. I haven't seen a more passionate NBA fan base than Filipinos, Malaysians, etc. These people watch NBA religiously and laugh at NFL football. It doesn't matter what or who it is...if it's NBA, they're watching

You're aware they added the 2nd best player in the league to their already stacked team, right?

I'm not saying they're invincible but using last year also isn't the best comparison.

trailing indicator

The drama of last year fueled this year. The results of this year will reflect in next season.

They won't sweep, 6 or 7 games. Cleveland can shoot with them better than anybody and Cleveland has the advantage inside by a wide margin.

Don't know. Do people know how incredibly rare it is for a Finals team to get swept? I would never call for it.

Drama doesn't drive ratings. Do you know what drives ratings? Casual fans having a vested rooting interest in one of the teams that are playing. I remember listening to a sports radio show a couple weeks ago and one of the hosts brought up a really good point. NHL ratings aren't terrible because the game isn't exciting or the quality isn't great. NHL ratings are low because when the Predators and Ducks are playing in the WCF, nobody outside of the fans of those two teams cares who wins. The NBA is the exact opposite. Casual fans were tuning in because they were rooting for or against LeBron and for or against Stephen Curry and Golden State. And if Golden State continues to be really dominant, I bet people will still be tuning in either to root for or against them.
