On the flipside of that, she had to hone her skills among men to be able to break through as a female athlete. She wasn't afforded the training benefits young women are today. She was the first woman to play in a professional golf tournament with men (Los Angeles Open).

Wait, it sounds like you're trying to argue that she is, but your post actually says that she is not only not the best female athlete, but not even the best female tennis player.

After re-reading my statement, I can see how you might have drawn your conclusions. However, my comment was simply agreeing with the level of her dominance in Tennis "only". That said, I personally believe that Serena is the GOAT in female tennis. Securing the all-time Slams record will --- in my mind --- only solidify that contention.
While I think that she is an extraordinary athlete who would likely excel in other sports, I'm not sure that I would go so far as to say she is THE greatest female athlete ever. But she can definitely warrant inclusion in such a discussion.

Why compare athletes today to those of the past? Brady and Serena are playing at a high level beyond what those of 20+ years ago could because of nutrition, supplements, etc. so they can accomplish more. It was like comparing Ripken to Gehrig on the streak. Gehrig is riding on trains across country and basically has ice to help him recover to play. So what if Cal broke his streak? It's apples to oranges.
