Babe Didrikson is tGOAT. 2 golds and a silver in the '32 Olympics in Track and Field. 10 LPGA major championships. All-American in basketball.

10 majors but much much more.
quote:

she reached 10 wins faster than any other LPGA golfer, doing so in one year and 20 days, a record that still stands. She was the leading money-winner again in 1951, and in 1952 took another major with a Titleholders victory, but illness prevented her from playing a full schedule in 1952-53. This did not stop her from becoming the fastest player to reach 20 wins (two years and four months).

She was a close friend of fellow golfer Betty Dodd. According to Susan Cayleff's biography Babe, Dodd was quoted as saying, "I had such admiration for this fabulous person [Zaharias]. I loved her. I would have done anything for her."[13] They met in a 1950 amateur golf tournament in Miami and became close almost immediately. Cayleff wrote, "As Didrikson's marriage grew increasingly troubled, she spent more time with Dodd. The women toured together on the golf circuit, and eventually Dodd moved in with Zaharias and Didrikson. Victims of the homophobia of the times, they never used the word "lesbian" to describe their relationship, but there is little doubt that Dodd and Didrikson were intimate and loving partners."[13][1]

In 1953 Zaharias was diagnosed with colon cancer. After undergoing surgery, she made a comeback in 1954. She took the Vare Trophy for lowest scoring average, her only win of that trophy, and her 10th and final major with a U.S. Women's Open championship, one month after the surgery and while wearing a colostomy bag. With this win, she became the second-oldest woman to win a major LPGA championship tournament (behind Fay Crocker). Babe Zaharias now stands third to Crocker and Sherri Steinhauer. These wins made her the fastest player to reach 30 wins (five years and 22 days).[11] In addition to continuing tournament play, Zaharias also served as the president of the LPGA from August 1952 to July 1955.[14]

Her colon cancer recurred in 1955. Despite her limited schedule of eight golfing events that season, Zaharias won her last two tournaments in competitive golf. On September 27, 1956, Zaharias died of her illness at the age of forty-five at the John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas.

Not convinced she's female. She's got a penis tucked away somewhere I'm sure.

Nope. Serena in her prime would have not held a career winning percentage against Martina and Steffi

Okay but regardless of your opinion she has shattered anything they ever accomplished. She is the greatest tennis player ever but does it make her the best athlete idk

She is the greatest hands down. It just ticks off a lot of people that a black woman from Compton could come in & dominate a sport that used to be played at a snails pace. She has beaten 17 former world number 1's throughout her career across 3 decades. Calling her a male or saying she used steroids just shows how insecure & hateful a lot of people on this planet are. Oh well though she will just keep being dominant and the achievements will soar to the sky.

What I dislike about her is utter lack of sportsmanship, grace, and humility. She should have been kicked out of the sport after she threatened that lines woman while throwing a temper tantrum because Clijsters was kicking her arse in that US Open semi. Completely classless woman.

agreed.

but that's not true. she's won with a lot of class in numerous other times. she had a bad outing and it was embarrassing.

Fed obviously is her polar opposite.

I don't think that many people really care about women's tennis.

The only reason American's even care about women's tennis is because of the Williams sisters.

quote:

No U.S. Open women’s final has managed a 2.0 rating sans Serena Williams since 2007, when Justine Henin‘s win over ?Svetlana Kuznetsova had a 2.1. Each final involving Serena or her sister Venus Williams has posted at least a 2.9

Honestly, People don't seem to care about tennis unless one of the top stars makes it all the way to the finals. The US Open finals ratings for both genders have been equal for the last 10 years or so. What drives ratings are stars and not so much gender.

If Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic isn't in the finals, nobody gives a shite.

If the Williams Sisters or Sharapova aren't in the finals, nobody gives a shite.

Tennis ratings are going down the drain in general. They have half the ratings they had in the early 2000s.
