Here’s a clue. Beating a really good team that wins the rest of their games or at most has one other loss can be beating a top 10 team. Beating teams that end up with 3,4, 5 losses is just beating teams that were overrated to begin with. This happens often with SEC teams particularly since they get an extra rent a win because of the 8 game conference schedule. Then you add in that the fact that every year there’s a team or two or three like Texas A&M that are grossly overrated preseason and you get a lot of “top 10” wins that are nothing but bullshite.

Do you think the Oregon Auburn beat is the same Oregon playing now, 9 games later?

I dont.

if they played today, I'd pick Auburn. You picked terrible teams for your rebuttal.

Oregon got better. Michigan has gotten better. Texas coaching sucks and their coach is too arrogant to think that the problems could be with him or his staff.

Herman’s press conference yesterday. “I’d never say that we got out coached”. fricking narcissist.

And yes, I think it’s the same Oregon. In their history when Oregon plays a talented, physical team they get beat.

Ohio State fans sure are obsessed over that Texas game.

Too bad it doesn’t mean shite after LSU beat Alabama.

Ohio State’s win over Cincinnati looks really good, though.

Cincinnati was #4 at one point in 2009.

Count it.

Definitely not obsessed with a good win over Texas. To boast about it being a Top 10 win is laughable.

Battle tested for sure. If OU doesn’t make the playoffs I’m pulling for the Tigahs. So in other words, I’m pulling for the Tigahs.

Yea, nobody gives a shite that they beat an average Texas team that happened to be ridiculously overrated
The narrative by some of you is that LSU hasnt played very good ranked teams. I just dont understand. No one in college football is in the tier of Ohio St, LSU, Clemson and Bama. There is a major drop off after that. If Miss St was a better win for LSU than Texas in some of your minds, so be it... (sarcasm font regarding state)....

Who is saying this? And whoever is saying this is being absurd. That said, counting games like Texas (especially) and Auburn (luckily won’t have to play Tua though) as top-10 wins is just as absurd.

Then adding the yet to be played 3 postseason wins (which would be top-10, maybe the conference championship game aside, for any team who wins the championship) on top of that is a bit deceiving too. In reality, LSU has the chance to have siz top-15 wins (Florida, Auburn, Alabama, SEC championship opponents, 2 playoff game opponents) at the end of the year. That’s more than a deserving resume. That said, it’s not something that’s so rare since OSU could even have SEVEN top-15 wins (Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Big-10 championship opponent, 2 playoff game opponents).

LSU has probably played the toughest schedule of any of the contenders, that doesn’t make Texas an actual top 10 team.

I would add Oklahoma and Georgia based on both this season and recent seasons, even if Oklahoma is a little behind where they normally are.

Luckily there is a middle ground between your facetious “worse than Miss St win” argument and the OP’s similarly absurd (but maybe without the facetiousness) “top-10 win” argument.

No you don't. The question was about Top 10 WINS. They didn't beat Alabama twice.

I dont.
The 6 up-to-date points metrics (FPI, SP+, Sagarin, Massey-Peabody, PowerRank, and SRS) that I’m aware of (I also use FEI it that needs updates and is based more on a per-drive basis and needs adjusted) give Auburn about 0.6 point advantage on a neutral field over Oregon on average (4 have Auburn rated higher).

Considering that Auburn came back from 15 (21-6) and won the game with a 26 yard TD pass with only 9 seconds to go (after barely getting a 4th down earlier in the drive) to win by 6, I would say that their game played out similar to how they currently rate.

Auburn is a top-15 in the best conference, while Oregon is a top-15 team in the 4th best conference. So their records and current rankings are reflective of both their quality but also the quality of their conference, which makes Oregon seem a bit better than they probably are in reality.

If LSU wins out they will have at least 2, maybe 3, top 10 wins based off rankings at the end of the season, when they actually count.

It would be a guaranteed 3, most likely 4 in the final top 10. Unless both Georgia and Bama blow their bowl games.

Texas is one of the most injured teams in the country. Completely different team than we saw in week 2.

Where are you getting this? Sports Reference lists 10 players out or questionable call, and 1 is a suspension.

Of those 10, only 5 have recorded any offensive or defensive statistic, and none of them are OL who typically don’t have an statistics (although they sometimes get a tackle on an interception or something similar). Of the 5 who have played (3 on offense: 2 on defense), they have played in a total of 5 games.

For the season, the 2 defensive players have a total of 12 tackles with 1 for a loss and they had 6 tackles and 1 for a loss against LSU. The 3 offensive players have a total of 47 receptions for 663 yards and 3 touchdowns on the season, and had 4 receptions for 55 yards and 0 touchdowns against LSU.

So altogether the players who are currently injured accounted for 6 tackles with 1 for a loss and 4 receptions for 55 yards against LSU. Texas doesn’t appear to be anywhere near the most injured team, let alone a completely different team than what LSU played.
